This is an old mod you can do a search on NAXJA and find several articles on it. Basically you are takeing any slack out of the shift cable that has occured over the years. My recomendation would be to replace the cable rather than ZIP TIE it to something to hold in place and keep the slack out of it. Does it improve shifting ? only to the point that a new cable would.Hope this helps ...

Yeah I have two zip ties on my TV cable pulling a little bit of slack out... and it does help with the shifting a little bit... not going to say like a nice shift kit would on a transmission... but a bit more than a new cable would have... I am thinking with the mileage I have on my trans, it is probably comparable to having a new cable, and still using one zip tie..

i did adjust the tv cable and it stopd slipping. better gas mileage and better shifts.

ok guys well I did it but I removed it after a single run as the engine would go way up in RPM's prior to shifting and the shift wasnt anything special like others had claimed, HOWEVER that being said I also removed and cleaned the shift solenoids three days prior and that made for some REALLLLLLLLYYYYY smooth shifts so my final answer is... not really worth it although if you drag race it perhaps it could prove beneficial but not for the everyday run of the mill wheeler/cruiser
