Dear friends, please help me determining my correct lift height. I installed front spring from mercedes benz w124 with 1" spacer.
Then measured distance between axles and frame as instructed in FSM,
Checking Front Ride Height

Measure front ride height with the vehicle unloaded (no luggage or passengers) and with the fuel tank full.

Place the vehicle on a level surface and measure the vertical distance between the top of the axle tube (A) and the underside of the frame sill (B). Refer to Figure 1 for driver's side measurement and Figure 2 for passenger side measurement. Be sure each measurement is taken from the top of the tube and not from the axle or shift motor housings.

With Standard or Soft Ride Suspension, vertical distance should be 17 cm (6-3/4 inches) plus or minus 13 mm (1/2 inch). With Heavy Duty Suspension, vertical distance should be 20 cm (7-3/4 inches) plus or minus 13 mm (1/2 inch).

Checking Rear Ride Height

Measure rear ride height with the vehicle unloaded (no luggage or passengers) and with the fuel tank full.

Place the vehicle on a level surface and measure the vertical distance between the top of the axle tube (C) and the underside of the frame sill (D) inboard of the jounce bumper (E).

With Standard or Soft Ride Suspension, vertical distance should be 15 cm (6 inches) plus or minus 13 mm (1/2 inch). With Heavy Duty Suspension, vertical distance should be 18 cm (7 inches) plus or minus 13 mm (1/2 inch).

here is calculation result based on data of Standard Suspension -+13mm:

which one is my actual lift? I am afraid, as my reading - beyond 3" of lift lots of things to do ...

I can't help you there, looks like you have it under control though.

I always heard that the normal height is 17.5 inches in the front from the middle of the wheel to the fender flare and 17 for the rear.
Now how does that apply when you have cut or custom fenders ?

What I want to know is about the Mercedes coils that you use.... hope you will tell us more about that because it is truly the first time that I see that being used ;)

The easy way to check this is to measure from the center of your wheel to the fender flare. In the front it should be 44.5 cm and rear 43.2 cm for stock height. Any more than that is your lift. these are the factory values. So true lift is measured from these values. However it is common for the rear to sag, so the amount of lift may seem more when correcting for it.

ok, will measure tomorrow and update here. I already have an leaf for rear and thinking about to add it for leveling

Od on your comment "above 3" lots of things to do" your right that's when your at the point when you will possibly need adjustable trackbar, lower control arms,SYE and drive shaft or shims and Tcase drop with longer yj yoke and depending on tire size bump stops. If your XJ is a trail rig only the only thing I would worry about is the slip yoke as you increase the rear lift the slip yoke slides further out of the transfer case output shaft. I really wouldn't worry that much there are conflicting opinions on wether or not these are things you need to do on a 3" but most agree that if you go 4.5" you need to do additional mods that's why most 4.5" lifts come with lower control arms, tcase drop, shims and trackbar. Check out your metric tape. I thought it could be a engineer's scale tape at first but then remembered Od is in mongolia. cool chart Od and thanks!

Actual story is real fun. Borrowed idea from russian jeepers, they installed it on ZJ for lift with adapter and I read following:
- V8 ZJ front coils give 1" of lift for XJ,
- if installed at rear of ZJ result is same 1".
then I thought ZJ's coil is same diameter as XJ, but ZJ's front is 1" longer than ZJ's rear.
Asked from friend who have ZJ and he sent me sagged coil for example and I ordered coil for parting guy, without measuring my own coils :smiley-laughing021: :smiley-laughing021: :smiley-laughing021:. Bought coil from parted W124 MB, 2.5L; it was 430mm long, 120mm overall diameter; 15.6mm spring.

Yesterday I was free and decided to replace coils. After removal of original coil, I've seen the diameter difference. Inner diameter is bigger than MB's and I understand it will not seat. Then went for metalworker and requested to heat lower 2 winding using acetylene and I unbind them with help of sludge hammer, then cooled down in open air.

Then I've got result above.

PS: I am far away from XJ population and it is the reason... :sad0147:

Cool write up Oderdene. Have to admit never heard of using Mercedes Benz coils before.

measured them and got front is ~3.5"; rear is ~2.5". Nothing to worry and happier than ever. Love how it looks now.
:jumping0041: :jumping0041: :jumping0041: :jumping0041:
will add one more leaf at rear for 3.5"

That's a neat way to visualize the height difference.
