the internet is full of useful info on this. but the majority of the info is either wrong or for toybox jeeps. i just converted & installed an 8.8 in my 92 xj. here is a horror story...
first she had an 8.25 built, ausie locker 3.55.1, chromolly shafts, discs.
got the 8.8 in. that was the easy part. now what i have learned. maybe it will help you.
needs wheel spacers or offset rims. the tires rub the springs under strain. the yoke is a joke. still havent mastered that problem yet but here, the one that came on the 8.8 was off of a 98 exploder, it is way toooooo big for our u-joints. tried ones from mustangs, crown vics, f150's, rangers. all NO GO! gonna order the spicer one tomorrow.
the brakes are great.
swapped the front axle with one from a zj with 3.73.1 gears. here we go again, cant use my driveshaft. the d30 from the zj is 1 3/4 inches longer at the pinion. NICE! a zj driveshft didnt fix this either. gonna have the d/s shortened.
thats where i am at now. any feedback like telling me that i was dumbe for trying this LOL is welcomed.
