My only issue in rebuilding the cv is finding #3 My cost at the dealer is $103. So I opted to take it to a driveshaft shop and have them do it. $162 smackers later I had it rebuilt with spicer joints.

If you can do brakes or if you have ever changed a u joint I would think you can handle rebuilding the double cardan drive shaft. I got my spicer u joints for $89.42 at inland empire drivline at 1-800-800-0109 shipped. 2 5-785x sealed for cardan joint and 1 5-153x geasable for axle side. I chose this because without removing the drive shaft it's hard to grease the ones in the cardan joint even with a needle. I change my ujoints with a vice and 2 sockets which act like a press, 1 socket to fit the ID of yoke and 1 that the cap will slide in. the centering cup is a bit tricky but if you take care disassymbling your needle bearings won't go flying about in the centering cup, take that apart over a bench or something white in case some slide out with the pin and fall out. Putting back together must be done in a certain order to reinstall the centering device and in the yoke is a small hole to lube with a needle you might have to clean to see the hole but it's there.

When installing u joints you might need to tap on the yoke with a hammer to seat the caps which will free them up if the u joints seem stiff after install. It all went smoothly I did however had to realign the needles in the centering cup before I reassymbled and swiped a dab of high temp grease in the cup. But if you muff up the cetering device you can buy one at least. Mine was still good even with 141k on the xj. I did mine in 2 hours. The people at IED are very cool and can answer all your questions.
