I plan on adding stiffening to both sides of the uniframe with internal tubes for the bolts to go through when I install my bored box plus probably get a good brace. Other than doing those things, I don't know what else could be done for extra beef in that area.

I need to double check with Mark "DETOURS" but when I asked him about this on my rig he said the front bumper he built for me would take care of this. Again, perhaps I misunderstood, because if I am reading what you wrote correctly it sounds like you did your bumper mount the same way.

yes my bumper is way past the steering box bolts but i think my bolts might have come loose and i jumped it and landed with the wheels turned

I didn't make my post clear I notice. I'll have long bumper mounts, going as far past the steering box mount as possible and a long plate on the mounting side as well with thru bolt tubes welded to those. I'm thinking the whole thing should hold up to anything I might wheel over or around. and yeah rene, if you jumped it and landed with turned wheels, that torque is probably what ripped it loose.

HOLY CRAP! I never thought about that happening. Makes sense to me now... :sign0181:

There are a couple of things you can do, some cheap and some not. First, as mentioned extend a metal plate from the stock bumper mounts all the way back to the grometed hole for the stock tow bar bracket. Second you can also fab or weld in a plate on the inside too. Third, you can purchase an aftermarket steering box brace that will brace the lower part of the box to the other frame rail. Fourth, you can put a hydraulic assist on which will cut the torque on the box in half.

Rene,...Rene,...Rene....I've seen you jump, they don't make a steering box with threads that strong!!

have you plated the bottom of frame rail also?? you can easily modify reinforcement with a nice piece of 1/4'' i think it needs to be 3 1/2'' x 6'' and throw down a nice sturdy corner joint. make sure you drill holes where the threaded bolt hole( or holes ) are before and burn it it nice and deep
