Summer is almost here and the fiance wants the A/C working...it is low and needs to be recharged...I have a r134a conversion kit ready to go, but I cant get the freon out because I cant remove the two port covers to gain access to the service ports.

On the 89 there are two blocks on the compressor, each block has a service port on the side, facing the passenger fender...the front of the block, facing the front of the eng. bay, has a long cap made of aluminum with a square end that is threaded into the block...you have to remove this aluminum cover to have access to the service ports...and mine are stuck good...Short of removing the A/C lines to pull the blocks, whats the best way to free these?

I'll get some pictures up this afternoon..

Like Blue said channel-locks or try using adjustable wrench(big) if ya have one to turn them. Just make sure not to bugger up the threads then ya will have more problems. Should be able to break lose pretty quick.

Well just a reminder that whatever gas/liquid will come out is toxic and bad for the environment and steps should be taken to avoid the dispersion of this product into nature ;)

This being said, I can;t wait to see some pictures and a write up....

Are you talking about the little oversized tire valves, or the long stems that stick out? If I remember correctly you turn them the opposite way you might think.

long stems that stick out...ive tried channel locks and knipex pliers....I'll have pics up shortly..

I've been trying to turn them left...I'll try the other way and see what happens...hopefully they don't break...

Yes, reverse thread. Those are called king valves, just for your info.

I hate when things like that happen. I hate left hand threads that don't have a hash marks. But if you got knipex pliers you should be able to afford to have it done.Just kidding
