View Full Version : Light Rings on XJ. (Angel Eye)

I really like the "angel eye" or light rings around the headlights on several high end cars. I have been thinking about making some for the XJ.

There are two styles the multiple LEDs that ring the headlight, and the clear solid plastic tube that is illuminated by one or more LEDs from the ends.

My question for you guys, would it be something that was cool, or just very out of place on an off road vehicle?

Do you have a picture or a link ? I can;t figure out what it is you are talking about lol
And I am too lazy to do a search

I have that capability in my conversion head light housings. But I chose not to hook it up. I thought it was out of place. It sort of belongs to the ricer crowd.

Just my two cents, if you are going to do it get some housings made for it and put a H4 style bulb in it while you are at it.

great Idea Tony! I think the ring of led's would look better than the tube with one at each end. I also have been trying to figure out how to mount some mercedes head lights with the wiper blade. It would be so cool to get through the mud hole and clean your head lights from inside the jeep.

Steph, it is that faint ring around a headlight when it is not in use at night. Lots of the fancy late models have them factory equipped with projector headlights

Headlight wiper blades would be a great idea in snow country where the water is so dirty all the time

OK I googled it... i had never seen or heard about that before lol

from what I see it look nice... but I don;t see the need for an off road vehicle (or did I miss something?)

Do they bring up more light ? if not it is just an aesthetic feature and becomes a question of personal taste

I think they would look out of place on an off road vehicle. But on a mall crawler... it might be ok.

Oh yeah personal taste is all I'm asking about. Just want people's opinion.

If they come on with the running engine, it could be argued it would be a safety device from the stand point of you being more visible in high contrast situations like a bright sunny day and your Jeep in shrouded by a shadow.

x2 Again just my opinion , not sure about TX but here in Ca you would be laughed off the street and nobody would ever wheel with ya.But as I always say, its your rig and if you like it go for it !! When somebody else is paying for it then they can have an opinion.

I think they would be pretty easy and cheap to make using the plastic rod method, I'm just concerned they would look like 22" rims on a Jeep. :bang:

I think they would look cool on an xj that was built for rally racing. But in the case of 4by'n I believe less stuff to break the better also I don't ever recall seeing them for rectangular lights at sema.

personally i like the way they look. there is a guy over on CF that did a write up and they look awesome but i cant seem to find him or his pictures. It doesn't look that much different and i don't care what other people think. If you like it do it....If people make fun of you, thats just because they cant afford it and wish they had it. Ive been planning on putting these on my jeeps, i've just been too lazy lately.

When I had murdered out 2wd 98 xj I would have been interested in a blacked out projector w/ halo's. But on a trail rig??? I plan on getting 2 round lights and cutting the grill out to mount them.

You could say that. On the car we run the head lights 24/7. The US Gov did a study way back in the day and found there were fewer accidents when gov vehicles ran their lights in the daylight.

Many years ago my son-in-law had PIAA's with a halo ring on his XJ. XJ was dark blue. As I remember, the ring was blue. Looked good.

These lamps were on the market years before OEM car makers offered them.
