there 60.5 in long made out of 2x4 square tube. i cut the front ends so they will go over stuff but i really don't think its a have to. i think it might look better but im way more worried about the protection than looks :shocker:

ok here goes

here they are being fitted

I think it is better to weld them on. But yes you can make them bolt on. Where his is welded to the "frame", you would first need to weld a flat plate to the end of that square tubing. Then drill holes in it, then drill holes all the way threw your frame, and run long bolts through there. Then you would also need a piece of flat metal sticking up off the sliders so you could drill holes and bolt them to the pinch seam. So welding would be easier and better.

Not unless you take out a tree, bend one to hell and have to replace it.

I'm planing to weld mine on once I get them fabricated. I don't plan on using the pinch seam for a support, seems like that seam is pretty wimpy to start with and I've talked to two guys who build these things for sale and they both told me that as long as I am supporting the full length of the rocker, the pinch seam doesn't seem to be needed (if you build them strong enough). I'm going with 2"x6" .335 steel tubing and going to use same material for the braces to the "frame". I 'm hoping to have enough sticking out to use as a step and may end up adding door savers (1.25" od steel tubing that's .335 thick walled). when I get to do this, I'm also going to do pictures of the process and post the build.

I used the pinch seam for extra strength. Plus my sliders are out further to protect from the side as well as below. We get grief from tansport in Aus if we weld to chassi rail. So the seam takes some presure off the rail bolts.

Good info. Making a set of sliders in the garage is my next project.

So Rene,
Do you occasionally find some rocks while you're wheeling in the mud?

I would suggest utilizing it. Our frames are not that strong anyway. The pinch seam is actually as strong as the "frame". If you use both, then it will be as strong as it can possibly be. But our frames will not stand up to that much leverage.

Agreed. If you look at my slider design I only used roofing self drilling 14g screws on the chassis rail, but have three cross members with of these in each plate at the chassis rail, and the pinch seam takes most of the wait using 6mm bolts. I used 8 of these to spread the weight. I hit my rails hard last weekend and they held up. I also put my sliders further out so you won't dent the sill when hit from the bottom ore side. But it depends on the type of wheeling you do.

I found a tree stump, well I knew it was there, but I thought I wouldn't be anywhere near it...

That is exactly why I built mine the way I did, out level with the tyres.

Mark (DETOURS) built by rear bumper, custom front bumper and we've already spoke about changing these up a bit. I've been a fan of the round over the box tube for a while now.

Sweet, they are out a bit like mine to protect the panels, although with those tyres ya don't need it.

:shocker::smiley-laughing021: nope but tree stumps are a bitch and it does give a good place to use the hi lift :D
i got to thinking about this and i know we give yall shit about not wheeling very much and yall give us shit about mud :shocker:but if i had Gilmer http://www.barnwellmountainra.com/ or http://www.hiddenfallsadventurepark.com/ the place you had ROM at i would be there every other weekend just like i am at creekside http://creeksideedge.com/ . i built my jeep to use and use it i do but i go wheeling to get away from my life just to have i little fun with my friends and to make more friends. if all i used my jeep 1 or 2 times a year i would build a wheeling only rig but i dd mine and i cant afford to go to a cool offroad park every weekend so i use it were i can. btw i do know you i ment you at rom 2010 and i would love to go wheeling with all of yall again :D

Nice, I plan on cutting out my rockers and welding a piece of 2x6 tubing in their place. Even plan to cut off the bottom of the door to clear them. Found a nice write up on this here...
http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/TECHNICAL.htm
scroll down to the rocker section and look at the high clearance rockers

^^^^these also work to stiffen the uniframe. I have TNT unibody stiffeners and a cage. Once I get around to doing this I will have a rock solid "tub" with the cage tied into them also.

Exact reason why I want to get some sliders before I really start hitting the trails too hard... I want to keep my rockers in as good of shape as possible for now.. until I can afford or learn to do the 2x6 rocker upgrades...

Thank you for this information it is very much appreciated. I didn't know the pinch seam was that strong. This changes my plan for the better. I'll be welding, some how I don't trust those self tapping screws many use to attach these to their rigs to much.

I pushed my pinch seam up 20mm on a good hit. Trouble is that is the strongest point unless you do a mega fab job or get the ones mudderoy posted
