power steering pump

hey all,,, power steering pump has started to make a noise like its under strain..sits idling with noise slightly turn wheel and stops,,took belt off and checked all pulleys all ok ,,,has fluid,,,,thoughts please..wonder if all the quakes are taking there toll on the old girl:smiley-scared002:

Wayne, my first thought goes back to the bath it took awhile back. Your friend might have sucked a little water into the pump. How does the oil look after it has been running for awhile?

Take the pump off and dump it. While the lines are disconnected, turn the steering wheel back and forth lock to lock. Make sure you are pointing the return line at someone you don't like :rotfl2:

sucked oil out with syringe thingy i use for diffs etc...dropped line started pump rest of oil out,,filled it back up ,,,still have noise :smiley-laughing021:

Hey Wayne not tryin to sound stupid but have ya checked the belt itself? And check steerin arm also may have gotten a slight twist in it cause ya said it stops once ya turn wheel.Just an idea mate.

belts all good,,,its coming from pump, might be on way out,,,its just a noise more a pita

Once you give it that oil coat, you can buff it out for a great under the hood shine:D

will if you do replace it you might want to put a small oil cooler inline that will help to keep the powersteering gears and seal in good shape becouse with bigger tires and deep mud and ruts it will overheat and the pump will not last as long.
