Hi guys,
I've got a 90 renix XJ with 4.5 inches of lift and the 231 t-case. the rear output shaft seal started leaking so i got a new one and put it in. it immediately started leaking as well. as if its not the right one. here is the one i bought.

it fit right in with the long rubber part sticking out. its leaking where it connects alot. suggestions? take it off and silicone it up?

Just could have taken a small dent or hit debri while installing, I'd try another from NAPA.......if it's around the shaft area, check shaft for ridges or wear...

well i took it off and there was a little dirt in there that i apparently didn't see when i installed, cleaned it all up real good and put a little silicone on the inside of the case and on the lip of the seal and will see how she does tomorrow. if it leaks, i'm going to NAPA.

ok so no more leaks where the seal goes into the t-case but it is leaking where the shaft goes into the t-case. i checked the shaft and cleaned it up real good, no impurities or anything. may have to get a different seal i guess :boohoo:

Just a good rule of thumb with new seals, its good to grease them where the metal will be in contact with them.

Some seals even come pre greased, seals get lubed by the oil so at first they need a layer of grease to protect them until the oil can work its way to the seal.

yeah i always grease stuff up. i ended up getting my money back on that one and got one from napa, it looked totally different, no leaks at all

cool beans, and good to know to inspect those when I buy some so I get the right one.
