Thoughts about hood gauges

I was kicking around the idea of installing hood gauges on my XJ. Instead of cluttering up the dash or a pillar for gauges. Just wanted to get some thoughts

They would be easy to see and you won't have to take your eyes very far off the road.

Many years ago some cars had optional tachs which were mounted on the hood, like the GTO Judge.

The XJ has a flat hood, I feel a gauge pod would appear to be out of place on that flat hood. Now if you created a cowl induction style scoop and the gauge pod........

But the gauges would be easy to see.

That is my thoughts a cowl hood or mod the hood for the gauges

Do it, take plenty of pics, write a tutorial.... you might start a new fashion style for XJ's
Or raise a lot of criticism for desacrating your hood.... in any case it might be interesting ;)

In my opinion hood gauges belong on race cars. What gauges are you wanting to put there? Just seems like a chance of them getting knocked off on a trail. Would be bad if it were a mech oil pressure gauge or fuel.

I had a full cluster on a light bar I designed for Wranglers, it was pretty kool but the damn chrome cups cost as much as the gauges......:headshake:

i dont know.. im not a big fan of hood gauges but i would have to see what it looks like if first.
