I was poking around the net and found this.

I thought it was a good idea, it would take care of a few problems i was having. I would have a rock bumper and on board air, without taking up space in the cargo area for a tank. Your thoughts? Possible pros and cons?

Lots of people have done something similar. The only thing I don't like about this one is where those quick disconnects are. I realize they are protected, but they are still vulnerable.

Those quick connects need to be behind a lockable door. That would make the bumper look better and still allow the protection that the connectors require.

I'd hate to see what happens if someone hits you from behind... BOOM!

At first I was thinking about mounting it under the xj, but I think that would be more vulnerable there than in the back.

That particular bumper was made from 4"x6"x1/4" steel tuping It is one solid piece, not a welded sides. I think it would be able to take a rock or 2 to the bottom.

I agree with the covers, I have been brain storming about a way to cover them. I was actually thinking of something like a solid metal door with a key lock.

It would not be pressurized while on road driving.

This is how I am planning on mounting an air tank on my rig.

Maybe a tank underneath with a skid plate?

Yeah, but with sliders I bet it wouldn't be a problem. Skid never hurts though.

you want to keep for coming down on the tank the prisher is no big thing it is around 120 to 150 it would make a loud hiss. rust it the bad part it will eat out your tank and the tank would come apart. I have used scuba tanks they are aluminum and are rated at 3000 so 120 to150 is nothing. even a tank that
didn't pass hydro test would proble hold.

Let me direct your thinking a little. You don't need disconnects on the bumper itself. You put a fitting on a side that is very protected and run a flexible hose to it from the compressor. The disconnect can be put anywhere else. It is not necessary to run directly off the tank. Mine isn't.

There is an idea!!

4.3 and I think alike on the disconects, I'm going to have a set under the hood for the front bumper tank and a set inside at the rear for the rear bumper tank. I plan on using 6x4 rectangular tubing with 3/16" walls for both, hard lines off the back side of the tanks with flexable 300 lb hoses attached to those up to the fittings plates. I'm also going to use rubber boots to cover the quick connects so crud doesn't bugger them up.

The front bumper will actually have less air volume since there will be a low mount winch in the center. This will make me either have three sets of quick connects or hard lines connecting the two front tanks.

Awesome! those are places i also thought about mounting an air tank. The only thing is the tank rusting. But couldn't you just mount it, then get a rust proof undercoating?

The rusting will be on the inside of the tank. You need to have a way to periodically drain the tank of water.
Something good to do is put some paint inside, shake it around, then pour out the excess. Leave it sit for a couple of days to dry.

Do not worry, the bumper tank will not blow up if ruptured. It will go woosh and thats it. Tanks only blow up in the movies (the SCUBA tanks in Jaws come to mind).

I always liked that scene.

That would be great if they had shot it "movie style" and "realism style"

Mythbusters did this. First they showed the 'blow up' from Jaws, then they shot a pressurized tank with a 30-06. All the tank did was buzz around the room (shipping container) until the pressure dissipated.

that is with a full 3000 psi tank on a jeep 100 to150 only

my plan was to hook it up to an on board air system. From which I would run my lockers and such.
