I used to have software I loaded into my laptop and a plug that went to my diagnostic plug in my old VW Jetta. This allowed me to diagnose problems, make small mods, and a few other things. Is this software available for the XJ?

there MAY be something out there for that, but might be hard to find, and what you do find wont't do what you want it to do. Most of those computer programs and stuff are designed for OD2 while your Jeep is OD1. I could be wrong though...good luck

I believe OBD II was a federal government requirement for all vehicles made from 1996 forward. From what I just read in this post it looks like your 95 could be a OBD I or OBD II. If it was a 1996, it would be a OBD II

Your right Tony, OBD1 ended with the 95 year model, the OBDII began at the end of the 95 model year so if you have a late year 95 it could be OBDII, all 96 and newer will be OBDII.

I think the connector is different. So you should be able to tell by that... It's under the dash.

OBDII connector is a 16 pin somewhat triangular connector under the dash. Should look like this.

You are OBD1 a very primitive sysytem at that on the Jeep The Chrys. DRB2 or dribble as we call it is only available to Chrysler dealers and very few of them have a working one and even less techs than know how they work. I tried to get one when the local dealer went out of bus. but they said they couldn't sell it to anyone , they had to ship it to another dealer cus it worked. This is the only unit that will comunicate with the Renix abs system. hope this helps

The plugs will tell you which you have. The one on the left is OBD I and on the right is OBDII

You will notice the blank spots on the OBDI plug. Those are the ones that will access the chip and reprogram it. I would call Summit Racing 800-230-330 and ask them.
