Is it better to put the gasket up with a little RTV then put the pan up against the gasket and bolt in that way you make sure it is set right by the front and rear?

I did but I can't seem to get the back near the rear main in the right spot between the pan and the inspection cover on the transmission.

If ya got the good rubber felpro gasket i rtv'ed it in 6 spots to keep from moving during the reinstall

that was my thoughts just use the RTV to hold it to the block until I get the pan up and bolts started

You can also add a tiny bit to the 4 sharp corners for added protection in those areas.
