Ok guys I have a 3 and 4 year old that love to steal my keys and hide them. I have had 5 keys for my jeep disappear in the past month. I want to wire up a push button start with a switch for the acc. and ign. Does anybody have a step by step on how to do this.

I don't think anyone has a step by step for that here. But I can tell you how to do it. The simplest thing to do is to have a lock smith pull your lock set out of the ign switch on the column so you can operate it manually without the key. The rest is more complicated. There are four wires on the starter switch itself located on the bottom of the steering column. The red is hot, it goes to the on switch and the start switch. IIRC orange goes back to the fuse block and is the run wire, yellow is accessories and would come off the run switch also. Green would come off the start switch.

Thanks for that info 4.3, I may put in an on/off switch and perhaps a starter button for Da Lizard. I have a hidden battery disconect for anti-theft already.

Just an idea...when I was in the Marines, all of our Jeeps had a main battery (power) switch. We flipped it, then held two momentary switches closed. At the same time we pushed a floor mounted starter switch with our left foot. When the Jeep started we released all 3 switches. Jeep ran until the master power switch was flipped off.

How about a manual crank ?

j/k this is a great idea though and in my opinion, it looks cool to just have to flip a switch or press a button to start a vehicle lol

Sounds like a good way to keep drunk marines from driving:smiley-laughing021:

I am totally not surprised at that. When I was in the service, marines were either drunk or fighting when not on duty.

Kind of hard to return fire when all you have is one free foot!

Can you fit a big toe in the trigger guard?

Like the 2nd idea, with a removable power switch key.

I like the 2nd too, but that would not do much good if the kids steal the keys.
