Think I would prefer an all internal roll cage like this:

I would rather have an internal cage with maybe a few parts that peak out for protection (fenders, window gutter, tie into front bumper). I guess that's what a hybrid cage would be...

I'm going to be building an internal cage, mostly because that's what I'm used to and it will be what I fasten my saftey harnesses to. I see some advantages of having an external one, but mostly for banging into trees. Seems to me that if you find rocks, you will still be bending your body panels up and there would be leaks from the pass throughs.

the only bar that will be outside is the top bar on mine

I would do a FULL exo... people ask why, well cause if I dent a door on this jeep just a BIT then it wont close... its a pita and just easier to do the ouside PLUS when you do go on bumpy trails you dont have to worry about hitting your heads on DOM everywhere!

I think I like the internal cage because from the outside you can only suspect how bad a$$ the Jeep is. Open the door and confirm it.

I am planning on putting a hybrid in the Nasty. Got a few ideas in my head but nothing drawn up yet.

When I slid into the tree that put the dent in my door a exo would not have saved it

I like the hybrid just cause you can use the cage on top like a roof rack plus if you ever dump it on its lid you will save a lot of sheet metal. You also get the look of a internal cage.
