From Mario Ramirez to XjTalk Jeep Cherokee

Yesterday I had a problem that my 84 XJ Jeep Waggoner it will not start and once I solved that problem now it will not turn off, if any one of you know how to solve it or can point me the right direction it would be very helpfull

got to be the key switch :thumbsup: i bet its sticking

more info (what fixed the no start issue) but i agree with rene ign switch

Before I say ign switch, I would like to know what he did to cure it not starting. Then go from there.

OK, I vote sticky ign. switch too. The switch itself is under the steering column. You need to pull the lower dash panel to access it.

You may not need a new one. It is operated mechanically with a rod from the key. It may be a problem with the rod at either end. These switches are very fool proof and rarely have any problems. I would suggest taking it apart first to determine more before buying parts.

i found the prob it was the starter relay shorting to the run side of the harness
