OK as per the XJ-Talk show this past week 1-26-11, talking with Steve about converting from U-Joints to CV's.
I did the conversion here are some pics of the conversion.

OK after a test drive in 2 and 4 wheel drive These CV's are way better in turns. You still get the humping motion, (not as bad). And it seems to be a tighter feel. All in all I feel that if you are a sometimes wheeler this is the route to go. I don't do allot of off roading, mostly a work rig, straight line pulls and so on. But if you want to do this conversion and still have if not more strength in a CV, than they make a conversion for this axle to accommodate that.
Peace......

Coming from a guy that has replaced TWO transfer case chains, make sure that in 4x4 PART TIME you are not on pavement. :shocker:

Well just in case you don't know, I didn't understand it for many years, 4x4 on a NON-slick surface will cause that hopping and will do damage to your transfer case.

AH!? OK I'm getting your point now. Ya if is dry or just wet I don't do 4 wheel just 2. Only when the roads r covered with snow or in the dirt or mud.
Thanks

Update,
I rushed the conversion because of bad death wobble on Saturday. I went over to friends and at 47 MPH it would shake in 2 wheel drive. So as I was driving I put it into 4 wheel drive. I could go 58 to 60 b4 it would start to shake. Well now with the new CV's I took it up to 80 mph with out any shakes at all. Very happy with this conversion. :cheerleader:

This sounds a lot like mine. Did the wobble continue once you hit about 50-53 or did the wobble stop? Mine stops but the wobble is pretty bad between 47-53ish.

The wooble would keep going till I would slow to around 30 mph.

any time i have ever had a death wobble it always turns out to be the track bar.
but i do intend to swap my front axle with one that has the cv's out of a v8 GC with 3.73's. i am putting in an 8.8 so i need the front to match & this seems cheaper & easier LOL

So I have a question about doing this mod. Is this a stronger set up compared to the regular u-Joint axle shafts? I plan on running 35" in the near future plus I mostly rock crawl here in SD. Thanks for the help.

Well its just my opnion, but I think stock cv axles would be weaker than stock u-joint axles, especially while rock crawling. The only way I would want stock cv axles is if it was mainly a daily driver rig, with light trail duty. CV axles are much nicer on the street compared to u-joint axles. just my .02

I want to do this on my 99 XJ. I assume I need to get CV axles for a 93 to 98 Grand Cherokee? My XJ does NOT have ABS. So I don't need or want an ABS ring. Is there a version of the Grand Cherokee CV axle assembly that comes without an ABS ring?

Part number(s)?
