Getting More Torque from your turd

I am slowly building a trail rig and need ideas on gaining more torque out of a stock 4.0.... Any ideas and/or suggestions

if I were going to build my ultimate trail rig motor, it would be a 92-95 obd1 4.0 HO. I would then put on 99+ intake with neon injectors. I would use an aftermarket header. Now if I had extra money to throw away, I would make it into atleast a 4.6 stroke, add onto that a bored throttle body. And then may as well do some homemade portwork and gasket match the intake, header, and throttle body. Then throw on top of that a nice fat wet shot of about A 150 shot of N2O for the hairy situations

If you are building a trail rig, regear to a higher numeric ratio. It will make a world of difference.

if your rebuilding a motor and want more torque, go to a stroker configuration, port the head to the intake and exaust and install those injectors mentioned. That should get you enough torque to pull the proverbial stump, drag it through the pig wallow and across the road to the burn pile.

What year of XJ do you have? My understanding is the ford injectors work on the renix style engines, were as, the neon one work in the OBD I style.

I would do this, and you can also get either a doubler for you tcase or even a 4:1 tcase like the tera low or atlas.
