To Flare or Not to Flare That is the Question

I am going with a 3 inch lift and I just wanted to get some opinions. I will have to check the laws in NC, but I dont think we have any that says the tires have to be covered. Wondering to keep the factory flares or take them off.

It was cool having the rooster tails front and rear at first, but I like it better now with the flares. :D

I like the way mine looks without flares. However if ya like to keep a clean Jeep, you will defiantly want some sort of flare on there.

Yeah what big jim said. My tires stick out nearly 4 inches. I get dirty leaving the car wash. Gotta love it when your mudd'n, slings mud 30 feet in the air!!

I like mine with the flares, I think it looks wider and better. Brian mine has a 3 inch and it has the stock flares. Tires are only 235's but will post new pic after I get my new meat on her.

yeah keeping it clean is impossible! but i like it with no flares!

Having no flares makes it more taller stance with a 3 inch lift.....i took my front flares off made a huge difference and i only have a 2 inch lift on it.....

flares are overrated!! LOL... that being said... I have to keep flares on my XJ, at least until I get registered in SC... so that I can keep the MD/DE police happy... even if they do continue to pull me over, and ask the awesome question of... did you know your tires stick out of your fenders??? LOL... NOPE sure didn't...

I talked to the Chief of Police yesterday and he said that nothing comes to mind about any flare laws so I am prolly going to take mine off and see how it looks

You know the TJ rear flares on the front and back of an XJ look pretty good. As it turns out I just don't care for the looks of a front TJ flare on a XJ.

I think it's because they are so distinctively Wrangler that it makes the XJ look like a wanna be Wrangler. That's just my opinion, to each their own of course.

Personally, I like flares. Not because they look cool:thumbdown: but because they are functional when in mud. I like to be able to see where I am going for more than the first five minutes. So I always keep them covered especially in the front.

I actually saw a link somewhere that bushwhacker was making a tube fender flare that allows a 33" tire with no lift for the XJ. They looked pretty sick.

I would be willing to say that this would signify a redneck that had to find a way to blow a few hundred bucks and had no clue what gears and lockers actually mean.

I don't know why i keep going back to the redneck thing. I think we are all thrown into that category more or less.
