:hmmmm2::hmmmm2::hmmmm2:I am going to replace my front hub assembly's. Multiple websites show several different " " assemblys available. Some say for "cast" or "composite" brake rotor? ??? Rock auto lists like 6 different options. 1999 XJ Classic 4wd, I would (in my own simple mind) think that I could order any that would show as an option and work just fine but don't want to rip it all apart only to find that I have the wrong part. No big deal if it wasn't my work Daily driver. ANy thoughts or experiences? Thanks!:hmmmm2:

A hub assembly is what connects to the axle, is this what you want to replace or are you simply replacing the rotors? if it's just the rotors then you can go with either one, cast or composite.

I want to replace hub/wheel bearing assembly. Rock auto shows several option with slight variances. how would i know for sure which would work or would any of them work? Other venders show hub assembly as "for use with either cast or composite rotors." Showing different different #'s for either option....

http://store.4wheelingplus.com/products.asp?cat=199&pg=6 this set is one of the best prices for the actual hub assembly and comes from one of our own vendors. this hub will work with either the composite or cast rotors.

Well I ordered my hub assemblys from Rock auto. Both sides shipped $123. Mine has cast rotors (don't really understand what "composite" rotors would consist of.) I also installed new U-joints on the axles since I had everything apart. One bearing was totally shot and rough... other was on the verge of going. Not that bad of a project once u get into it.

From what I've heard Timkin is better then most brands. Are there any brands that are better?

Timkin is The bearing manufacturer of choice for almost anyone that races. I personally don't know of a better bearing maker. In hubs, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. Sadly this is also the case with automotive parts, in many cases the brand and place of manufacture does make a difference. On occassion there are items that seem to be made in one country but when you really do the research, you find out they were made elsewhere. If the parts hold up as expected, good one, if they fall apart before the "favored brand, etc." was it really a bargan?

No I was just looking and reading about hubs and when I do replace them I want to make sure I don't have to replace them again for awhile.

some 99 models have cast rotors, some have composite. you cannot mix and match them with the hubs.

I buy the cheapest crap i can. None of em last very long on mine anyways. Sure I have to replace them more than timkin ones, but they have the same warranty so I dont mind the 30 min it takes to swap in a new one.

To add to my previous post: If you have composite rotors, you need to buy a certain hub. If you have cast rotors, you have to buy a different. I bought timken. These numbers may help: TIMKEN 513084 for composite rotors and TIMKEN HA597449 for cast rotors.
