Man, that is a tough break. It wouldn't be bad here with all the others sitting in the junk yard, but that is not the case in Kiwi land. Hope you get it sorted out. Better flush the tcase too.

Hey Wayne, is your "friend" who caused all this damage going to pay for the repairs? Or is he saying thanks for the ride, but no thanks?

Wayne, I was thinking. Bad, I know. But while you have that tranny out, there is an air vent tube on the top of it. When your buddy took the Jeep for a swim, I am guessing the tranny was under water long enough to cool and suck water in through the top vent. I hooked mine in with the tcase vent to a tube that runs up to the level of the distributor which is deeper than I plan on going since I still have my carpets. However when I get a marine distributor for the Chevy, that vent will go to the sealed air tube on the engine side of the air cleaner. I am suggesting you should do the same while you have it out and save yourself some grief in the future.

Personally I think its the TJ flares that sunk your Jeep :D There is a chance that your transmission will work after it has some time to dry out.

Hey while you at it move the tranny and tc vent tubes up. They stop just below the head, If you can keep the j bends in the hoses, The next time around you may be better off.

Hey Wayne don't forget to check the front and rear diffs and the transfer case, Man that was some bad water made the steering wheel move to the other side lol lol I think you need water wings for that rig. Oh before I forget be sure to flush that motor out real well,we just put one back together after it went swimming the cust never flushed it and water got under the main bearings and took out the crank. Good luck my friend !!

You will have to keep a low center of gravity.:D

Been studying this a little.

http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/rr52/cantab27/jeepin%20and%20bits/waterratpt3001.jpg

I would cut along the top of that joint above the fairlead and up the sides and back over the top and expose the whole winch. I would want to do this as wide as the winch is. Then put in a plate on the bottom that is tied into the rest of the bumper and plate up the inside to the top. That should give you plenty of access. Then drill the new plate for the foot of the winch. 1/4" steel should do the trick and still deflect the roos if you go to Aussie

4.3LXJ
09-02-2011, 10:45 PM
P.S. You could also put a plate up the back if you wanted.

Yeah, looking at it it looks like they were worried more about production costs than actually using a winch. I like my winch all out in the open so I can get to it easily.

Here ya go ---> http://www.silverdaleradiators.co.nz/about-us.html

Lazy Sod .... improve your googlefu :p .. :D

Wouldnt surprise me if its the same "made in thailand" radiator that AdRad sell over here .... and similiar can be got on e-bay for about a $100 less.

If it is the same one .... 2row / 13 fin per inch spacing .... It works pretty good .... but I did have a pinhole leak happen in the top hose fitting - at about 12mnths ...... but was a warranty freebie fix - coz I paid the big bucks to AdRad.

Wayne- Since you like to fiord the deep water you could move your winch to the top of the bumper like mine ( same bumper ). ARB would probably throw a rod if they saw it! I've pulled some tough stuff with this set up (ask BigJim).

yeha EVERY XJ exhaust manifold is like that... if its cracked then its cracked at the collector, I have one that is like that and one I picked up at the shop for free... Im going to weld it and reinforce it with more steel around all the pipes ... then when I replace mine I will fix the other one and sell it...and charge a core price so I can keep doing it... HOPEFULLY! if not hey at least MINES fixed right!!!

Yeah, but now he is in real trouble. Tcase has a right hand drop. What axle is he running anyway?
