So I need some new tires (33x12.5) and looking to go to a good AT without breaking the bank. I really like the look of the BFG AT and everyone that I have talked to says they are awesome. I was wondering if anyone has ever used the General Grabber AT2? My XJ is my daily driver with lots of miles being put on it so I need to keep that in mind but hopefully this year I will be able to do a lot more wheelin'. Anyone else have any recommendations? Thanks.

Just a side note....I'm looking for personal experiences. I can read reviews online all day long. :patriot:

It's really a regional question, what works well in California, wont work well in Kansas, or Maine.....or........Kentucky.....conditions/soils/terrain can vary big time.

If you're looking for best tire wear, I'd personally stick with the BFG's, they seem to last for ever.

Here in Kansas (midwest) when it rains IT RAINS!! So there is often times mud and most trails are pretty rocky. The BFG's are what I was looking at originally.

The BFG's are a good all around tire, wear like iron.

But, you dont get far in this Kentucky clay with them, and in New England they can only get you so far as well.......but they offer the best wear for your money, decent sidewalls, and CrAzY white letters if you want them.

Never a problem......
Is there 'rock' under the mud? In other words, is there a base?
If so, you should be kool with the BFG's, others as well......but then we're back to tread wear.

You could always try Treadwrights, I've had numerous sets, just dont air them down. (www.treadwright.com)

Well...I just checked the Treadwright website but it said that 33x12.5 is a discontinued size. Bummer. And yes...there is rock under the mud.

Treadwright is having trouble getting good skins, people are'nt replacing their tires in this economy as they have in the past........leaving no meat on available skins......unworthy for the process.

I've only ever own goodyear mtrs. Loved them, and when I got them (my 33's) I paid $50 less then the avg. sticker price. I've got 35's now which I picked up for free. Can't beat that :D

Yeah, I'm not complaining :D Though it they didn't come without some work. My brother picked up an XJ to fit his growing family. He already had a TJ with a teralow, tera60 and other goodies. So we swapped axles and goodies from the XJ to TJ and vice versa. And of course some fabrication had to be done. The XJ already had brand new 35's so I swapped my 33's with the 35's that were on the TJ.

Don't blame ya. I think those MTR's are a little too expensive for my bank account.

Look at the Goodyear Wrangler Authority at Walmart. They are suposed to be a all terrain but are actually a M/T.I paid $135 each plus tax.I have had them over a year and have little to no wear on them.By the way mine are 31x10.50's.

Years ago I had a set of Daokota A/T from Pep Boys. These were alright traction wise for off road. After 40K miles I took them off. They still had at least 1/4 of the tread left. 31 x 10.5 x 15

My son runs ProComp AT on his XJ. They seem to be lasting very well. He has about 7500 miles on them. They offer good traction. 30 x 9.5 x 15

You won't find anything cheaper than the Dakotas. The ProComps are competitvely priced and seem to be a good tire for the money.

Wow!! Those look really nice. Talked to a guy today that runs Authority's. He said he loves them. Haven't had any problems with them.
