Well I'm taking the XJ on a little road trip tomorrow. I'm driving down to Galveston for the weekend, only bout 100 miles. Now I trust my XJ totally on the trails, the highway not so much. So i went to the shop to load up just about every spare part I had. Now as far as I'm concerned there is method on which parts to take. I figure i would bring the most critical and hardest parts to change. Cause I figure i wont break anything I have a spare part for. So I didn't bring my spare pins for the swaybar diso. thats what I hope to break. So here is what I'm looking to get. If anybody around the Galveston area, or any place between conroe and glaveston, could PM me there numbers. I need the numbers for emergency purposes only. I can almost guarantee I wont drunk dial you. Thanks

I'm way north, but, you call, I'll come! Go across the ferry to Boliver, we drove miles and miles of beach last week and saw only 2 other cars. Oh yeah, be sure you have a tow strap, I ran across a Wrungler buried up near the Surfside end of the main island. He didn't have anything to get pulled out with, ( you know I had it !!!!).

Well the Jeep made it down there and back home in one piece. Course when I left the house the hub bearings were already in bad shape, after the 200 mile drive, sand, and sal****er, they are REALLY bad now. Now for a couple pics. I figure most beach pics are poser pics any way, so I took a double poser pic :D

The 30mph winds out there covered em up. Plus I tread lightly:smiley-laughing021:

How big of an area can you travel there? Many beach accesses? Or is it even better further south like Brownsville?

I think you can drive about 20 miles down the beach. There are many access points. However in my opinion the best beach to drive on in TX, is Padre Island National Seashore (PINS). It is 65 miles one way. There is nothing out there. You can go all the way down and all the way back and never see another person. It is a very challenging beach too. They have signs posted that only 4x4 can go down it. Me and a few other buddies usually plan a camping trip down there every summer.

Shouldn't need to wash it too much. I think all the old dried up hard mud covering everything was enough protection:thumbsup:

You can also go from Highland to Sabine Pass on the beach along old HWY 87. IKE probably took out what was left of it it's about 30 miles and if your lucky you mite see something at the nude beach down there

My dad always talks about being able to drive out onto the beach when he was younger, and people getting their cars stuck when the tide came in and they werent paying attention. Would love to get to do that here but they would treat you like a murderer if you tried it.

Texas beaches are one of the few places still owned by "we the people" and not a bunch of tree huggers. There are still places on the beach you can't drive but for the most part they are "open".
