Yeah was just going to say that it is a factory skid... I have been keeping my eye on the JY's around here for a XJ equipped with one... for the other items it has that I can use on my XJ...

IMX, you'll have a hard time finding that in a JY. Not many XJs came equipped with a factory skid. You may have some luck watching Ebay or on NAXJA. Depending on your budget you may try Rusty's or similar.
Rusty's Front End Stiffener & Skid Plate (http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=rustys&Product_Code=RA-JS35-XJ&Category_Code=xj_skid)
Sorta pricey at $119 but I've got Rusty's gas tank skid and it is great. It's been slammed all over sharp rocks and takes every hit with no problem. Well, the powder coating is gouged up some....ha. Just a suggestion....

As stated above try a JY. But good luck, as if an XJ shows up with one it will be gone the same day.

If you are in the market for an aftermarket bumper anyway, then some come with the skid plate. They protect the steering box and help deflect water from getting deflected up under the hood in the water holes. I had one and gave it away.

Definitely a factor skid plate. JY is the your best bet, unless you find an XJ owner that doesn't wheel his and can talk him out of it. :D

Mine had it from the factory, but the previous owner did not like it. So he took it off and threw it away!

Oh well

Yeah mine had one as well. I didn't like it, so off it came. I don't know what my FIL did with it. Metal scrap or he sold it.

when you go checking jy's don't overlook the older XJ's many from the 80's came with the front skid, these are not rare parts, just not so prevalent on the newer models of the XJ. if you do find one with the front skid, it just might have the transfercase skid as well. By the way, these stock skids are not what you would call beefy, but they are better than nothing.

What is the source for the parts listed? The two Jeep OEM Parts websites I tried came up blank.

I have one ;) I removed it right away and it is still waiting in the garage.
I want to make sure everything is good in the front end before I put it back because it is not so easy to access stuff there when there is one ;)

Oh and because I am lazy and procrastinate a lot too....
