Wayne, I don't know about the Max-Trac, but most winches nowadays have a standard foot print on the bottom. Does your bumpa have pre drilled holes?

Wayne, that might sound OK, but believe me after years of winching and yarding logs in the woods, you want good access to your winch. Snarls will happen, and if you cannot get to it, you might be screwed and unable to untangle the rope. I realize the rope doesn't get pinched as much as cable, but it does. And when it does you need to have access to it if for no other reason to see what is going on. The other issue is cable/rope maintenance. Most guys just hit the button and real in till it quits. The cable/rope will bunch up on one side or another and get so big that it will make enough friction you cannot unwind it. When winching, I winch for awhile, then unwind and wind the cable neatly, then continue on. This also keeps you from pinching since the foundation is smooth.

I'm sure it would, but couldn't you just weld in some pieces inside the bumper to make it strong again?

no i meant if i painted it red :smiley-scared002: :rotfl2:

Good one Wayne :smiley-laughing021::smiley-laughing021::smiley-laughing021:

if you are just cutting a little out of the top, not really. As the guy with the red said, just weld a some steel in the winch plate itself. Bars are stout anyway.

Check out my build thread. My older model Warn would not fit inside my ARB so I modified the bumper and mounted it on top. Having used it many times in deep mud now I realize that it was the right decision to mount it the way I did. I broke the 3/8" cable this week-end trying to pull a monster chevy truck out of a swamp.

Sorry painting it red would only serve to make you feel better about yourself. It won't do anything to help the strength of your Jeep. :P

Wayne, being out alone is why I invested in a winch almost as my first mod. There are times I wheel alone because I can't hook up with anyone. It makes lots of piece of mind, as well as saving a lot if hiking.

I would aim at 200 amp. That way when you reel out, the alternator handles it. Then when the load is applied, up to half the load with a fast recharge.
