I may have asked this before, I did a search, didn't find it...

Does anyone know the tone (in hertz) and decible of a standard 18 wheeler truck horn? I'm sure they come in different tones and loudness, but just a starting point.

I want one for my XJ. :patriot:

Im not sure about the answer to your question, but this site sells great kits. They also have audio clips of most kits. I had the train horn kit on my bagged nissan.

Thanks! I'll have a look. I know many people like the train horns, but I am not a fan, I mean unless it's on a train! :smiley-laughing021:

The way I look at it is this. If I'm driving down the road and someone isn't paying attention would it be more likely that a train is behind them or an 18 wheeler? I'm sure a loud noise is a loud noise but...

Tony

I know some truckers that prefer the train horn. It gets their attention much better. It is louder.

If they use dual train horns, the cops start getting on them for it.

lol, yeah I'm wondering how much trouble I'll get into when I finally get one on my Jeep. I'm going to try and only use it as a last resort.

I'd like to get some for my jeep but the problem is this... Florida is a retirement state and if I blow one of these bad boys I might end up in jail for murder by giving these old folks a heart-attack :smiley-laughing021:

No problem, they wouldn't catch you. Those "Rascal" scooters aren't very fast.

I vote for a train horn. Last resort, you may as well wake the a$$hole up, or drown out their cell phone:)

Where you gonna put the horn?

Here is a good website to get a great deal on the comp, tank., fittings and lines. I built the air managemnet system for my bagged nissan with this site

the Stebel horn, is great! Compact and complete, have one mounted on my motorcycle. No issues with that sucker. Mines about 3 years old, and works great. What I like is the compact size of it.
