I bought my Jeep early last November. I rode in a friends TJ and was then hooked on Jeeps. I did my own research and decided I wanted and XJ. I drove all over Texas looking at dozens of XJ find shit after shit, so I gave up. A little while later a car dealer friend of mine called and said he found one. It was a 100% stock 1992 Cherokee Laredo. And elderly couple used it as collateral to get a loan to buy a new RV. Well a year later both were repoed. When I went to look at the Jeep it was still hooked to the RV. So I don't know how many of the 120,000 miles it had were from being towed. Hopped in it and cranked it up and EVERYTHING worked. Opened the glove box and there was a file full of every recipt and the owners manual. So I bought it as the second owner for $1500. Here is what she looked like when I got her.

Here is how she looks now.

I always loved the XJ. At the end of 2006 I switched job's and the salary was better. I finaly got permission from Misses Cherok. First plan was to buy for maximum 3000 Euro but she was in a good mood and opened the bank for me a bit more 7000 Euro max.
The search began. Internet was the first where to look.
The second I really saw was this one:

Went for it, made a wonderful test drive, bought it for 6500 Euro.

You cannot beat the smile of my face driving my XJ :driving:

The wife and I have always wanted a Wrangler. In 1998 I went down to the local dealership and looked around, got prices and payment information and picked out a really nice 1998 all black TJ with 4.0L standard transmission and a hard top. I was going to get a soft top later. Really pretty Jeep, loved it.

I went back home and told the wife. Buying cars is fun so she wanted to go have a look. We got there, I showed it to her and we went into the show room to wait and talk to a sales person.

They had several Grand Cherokees in there but in the center of it all was a really pretty red Cherokee. Our favorite color is red, so we both took notice of it. I was having a "mature" moment when I asked my wife if she thought it might be better if we looked at a larger 4 door since we had two young daughters.

She told me she wanted the Wrangler and I said we could get the Wrangler later, when the girls got bigger. She said the red color was very pretty and I told her it's a Jeep and it's a 4x4, so let's ask. It turned out that the Cherokee was about $10 more a month on the payments. I asked the sales person if he had one in a standard transmission, no it would have to be ordered from the factory. :( I asked if they had one like this one that we could test drive. He said we could test drive this one! In 5 minutes they had opened the glass doors and drove it out of the showroom. In another 5 minutes I had the accelerator on the floor driving down the feeder road.

It had good acceleration, however I was amazed at how heavy it felt trying to stop it. We took it home and 3 days later they told me they couldn't work out the payments they had promised me, you know they wanted more than we had agreed. :smiley-laughing021:

I told them, no problem just bring my truck around and I'll leave this Jeep here with you. They fixed the deal while I waited, I signed the papers, blah blah blah! :driving:

Well I have had a few,.. the first XJ now known as Blasphemy started life with me as a $200.00 Pol;ice auction score,... barley ran and the transmission was screwed ,.. it was supposed to be a "winter beater"

http://tinypic.com/e8993a.jpg

over the years it has morphed to this

http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu235/RACE4THECURE/jeep2010.jpg

Had a 88 and 91 for parts,..

The 93 daily driver I got free for asking a guy to sell it to Me,.. but it was a rusted out bashed up tired ol XJ when I got it,.. spent a winter fixing it up and now in its new fixed up shape,..

I made a trip down here to CA from WA state in my 85 Lerado and rolled it. Bought a nearly identical 86 for $1600 from a guy who thought he was pulling a fast one me. The rear axle was misaligned and he thought it was going to be expensive to fix. I took it home and had a new center pin in it in about 30 minutes. It had 235K on it, but only about 35K on the engine. It had been towed behind a motor home.

Well, I got my XJ from my older brother. He had bought it about 3 years ago when he got stationed in NJ to use to commute when the weather was too nasty to ride his bike and to use it out on base. It has seen a divorce and marriage from my older brother.

In April, he called me and asked if I would like to buy the Jeep off of him because he had just gotten orders to be stationed out in California on the Nemitz. I jumped on it because I knew he had taken care of it and the car I had at the time was a POS.. plus, he was only asking $500.00 When I had asked him why he wasn't taking it out with him, he had explained that between their Wrangler, 3 motor cycles and her 67 mustang, they just didn't want to have to pay to have it taken out.

So from April to May, it had been re-ended about a week before he got married to wife number 3 and while they were on their honeymoon someone had clipped it..still didn't bother me, I think it just adds character. So, in May he came home for a weekend, we transfered everything over into my name. Since then, I have fallen in love with it. Everything is still stock on it but hopefully soon, the funds will be available so that I can start doing some upgrades to it.

Scored mine on craigslist...I used to have a supercharged eclipse and used to get tickets almost every other month so my wife told me I could have any other toy that wouldnt get me speeding tickets. I sold the eclipse then I took a week looking for the perfect jeep. I even bought and drove away with a POS and it started doing the death wobble so I turned RIGHT around and brought it back the very next weekend I found a listing and I called the guy within 10 minutes of the posting and basically the rest is history,
She was TOTALLY stock when I got her minus the radio it was literally stolen the day before I bought it.

Got mine on accident from a customer at work. It was just after 2:30am, and he and his buddy were wanting to buy beer, but I couldn't sell it to them (no alcohol 2:30-7am in OR). Anyhow, they asked about the Ford Probe I had parked out front of the store, and I explained I was borrowing it from a friend, I used to have an xj but a car pulled out in front of me and it got totalled. One of the guys said he had one too, and half-joking I asked, "you wanna sell it to me? I'm looking for a replacement!" Amazingly he said "as a matter of fact it IS for sale." So he went home real quick and brought it down to my work and let me take a look at it. A couple days later I called and met him for a test drive. After that, I couldn't say no. Got it for $1500. I call it the Panda. I took the pic below the day I bought it.

So far all I've really done is a few mechanical things like the fuel pump and a couple other things. Oh yeah, and a 3" RC lift.

My 90 was parked at an intersection with a "For Sale' sign and I stopped. The rest is history. Bought a 96 2WD from a buddy and converted it to 4WD then bought a 91 from a ladies side yard that had been sitting for over a year because she could not get it to start. Crawled under it and replaced the CPS and drove it home for $500. My daughter laid claim to it and still drives it. Sold the 96 back to my buddy when I moved back to Texas.

Have you ever gone through the steps to convert 2wd to 4wd on this site? I mean general overview not a specific step by step.

Got my 2-door '95 on CraigsList about 4 months ago. Got if for $800 after only one test drive. It was completely stock except for the stereo, which she decided to keep without replacing the old one (put a $100 radio in it). It ran fine except for a power-steering fluid leak (a $40 fix) and the driver-side window doesn't roll up (a $15 fix).

The only thing I have done is put tint on it. It is a 2WD so I am not really looking to do too much to it, just saving up to get a 4WD XJ. Then I'm gonna start having fun .

Without tint:

Don't have a pic with tint yet. Just got it done about 2 weeks ago.

I joined a jeep club anda few guys had xj's. I wanted a tj but didnt have the funds. Went on a few runs and the tjs were not as stable as the xj. Having rolled two zooks i thought nope an xj is the go. Looked at rubish then found a maintained family car. It was a 99 best of the last for $6000 with 184k's on the clock. I needed to getwheeling again so shfes mine now.
