So I met a guy a few months back and tried to get him into XJT but he just wasnt into jeepin like normal people, to him it was just a vehicle, Anyhow two weeks ago he got into a wreck and the insurance company totaled out his jeep but they were willing to let him hold on to it to remove personal items for one week, well last week I was talking with him about the wreck and told him Id LOVE to get a hold of that interior... he told me as long as I put my crappy parts back in then he was cool with it as he already collected from insurance, First I opted for the center console... then I got greedy and decided to buck up and ask him if I could swap door handles and mirrors and seats as well he said Sure same thing goes just put your crappy stuff back in it...
Well today I didnt have any "work" to do so I dove into this project and here is the writeup.
Items you will need to make this project work:
Drill with a 1/2 inch steel bit
24" of unistrut pick it up at home depot
8 1/2 bolts with nuts
and a sawzall came in REALLY handy
First cut one piece of unistrut to length and bolt it in place using the factory mounts

Then mock up and drill out the new holes for the NEW seat to mount to on the unistrut
1/2 inch holes

So here is passenger side installed...

the only modification I forgot to show was how it mounts in the back portion basically I had to drill out a new hole through the floorboard... DONT WORRY I put a backing on it and this sucker is REALLY sturdy

The Drivers side is pretty much the SAME setup only mirror imaged so no need to rehash that one!
Next item on the chopping block is the Center Console.

basically the ONLY thing you need to modify here is the e-brake setup which there are several ways to choose from, I opted to use the original setup MIXED with the new setup and I removed the Hook portion in half and left it with still a "J" shape (when you look at your e-brake you will understand, its all under the console) So then I ran the J shaped rod through the new e-brake handle lever and not having a way to secure it I opted to weld the rod to the lever
http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo167/seivey/Interior%20exterior%20upgrades/2010-11-03144310.jpg
I know UGLY welds but I didnt have a mask and used a crappy welder.
Another thing I forgot to show was that only ONE of the holes from the new bracket will line up this being the furthest to the back and the rest I just made new holes and bolted them in no biggie.
So here she is all bolted in , for the screws in the rear I used the factory bracketry from the older model and just ran LONG screws through the new console inside portion down to the existing brackets which held beautifully NICE and TIGHT.

So here is a pic from the driver side of the whole install

and an overhead shot while I was at a stop light a few hours ago as well

another note I got TOTALLY lucky with the color match on this thing the greys match up but in the tan setups there were three shades of tan that the jeeps offered back in the day and I just got lucky with this one!

If anyone wants to do this upgrade on their jeep Id be willing to do it for 100 bucks but YOU provide the parts!

on a technical note when your doing this upgrade DO not think to yourself "I will just flatten out these front brackets and bolt them through the floor"... these seats sit a little higher LOOKING but when you sit in them they are actually lower by about two inches... Odd thing I know! so save yourself the hassle and do them with the fronts bent in the same position

Yeah I love my cupholders... they work to hold all kinds of crap too, not just cups... but they are really convienent when you have a drink you just don't want to hold in your lap... or end up wearing in your lap using some cheap homemade designs I have seen...

Niceeee. cloth seats are so much cooler in the hot summer and the new console is just super sweet. Wish I had cup holders in mine but it will get them soon, since I finally figured out a good way to fab them up.
