I see a few pictures of XJ's with speakers mounted on the roof inside. It looks like it maybe either a kit or a mod or for all I know factory. It almost looks like a speaker bar, but not quite.
Those with them, could you give me a idea on what you used?

I can't find anything that isn't for a YJ or TJ. Other than the rear speaker bar that comes in the Cherokee from the factory.

Cherokees had rear speaker bars?
Might explain why I cant find it...

Oh well back to the jeep. Need to do the head gasket, thinking it may go into the shop. Little much to do on the driveway.
That and the little surprises I am having so far. Like no thermostat just a big ol hole. Mystery bolts and a extreme large amount of silicon sealer everywhere. Did not see any of it before, just power washed it and lo and behold!

I'm not sure what year that had them in, but my 98 has a rear speaker bar (of sorts)

You could probably use one from a junkyard if there are any in your area. I don't think they would charge much for it. Just pull it and the head liner. Most of the xjs around here are picked clean though

yeah IF you get lucky and find a rear sound bar no matter what SNAG THAT SUCKER!!! even if you dont do the soundbar you can sell it for twice what you paid for it at the junkyard I promise. and if you DO install it keep in mind that you either have to modify it to go with your center overhead console or you have to go without the overhead console... I had a ghetto setup for my jeep but I decided to ditch that plan after a year of people getting in my jeep and smacking their noggins so I moved my speakers here

these are 5.25 mids but they had a 6.5 mount to incorporate the grill so there is plenty of room on the lower dash to accomodate for your upgrade... now Imnot TALL by any means but a friend of mine isand he rode with me last week in the jeep and my first question was are those in your way NOW? he said no so I think that problem was alleviated. there is already a grill there with a tweeter behind there in some models but you can remove that tweeter and toss in a 4 inch speaker behind the grill and have no visible changes I just really like the way mine look so I went with surface mount.

oh and another note WHEN removing from your factory location of the doors its best for those of you in the colder states to put a cover over that hole in the door if not you will freeze your legs TRUST me, It doesnt even get that cold here and it isnt comfortable, I may be doing that in the next few weeks just tossing a peice of sheet metal over it and riveting it
