I recently received an Amazon gift card, so I bought something that I've been wanting to get but couldn't justify spending the money on, a gauge pod for the "A" pillar.

I'm a little concerned that it's going to work/fit, but lets assume it will.

What additional gauges would you want if you were able to add 3? Put them in order of preference, some pods are only 2 holed.

I know what I'm thinking of but I'd like to hear other suggestions before I waste money on a gauge that I will never check.

I'm thinking about...

1. Transmission fluid temp gauge
2. Vacuum gauge
3. Fuel pressure gauge

Keep in mind I have a full OEM instrument cluster. Having a real (non-electric) oil and coolant temp gauge would be nice...

I would like to have Mech. oil pressure, water temp and trans fluid temp.

Ok thats my top three

Mech water, tranny temp, and for the third either volt meter since you have a idiot light or a oil pressure if you dont already have one.. I would never run fuel line in my cab, that would be sumin you'd put on the hood... and for the vac gauge.. I dont underdatnd it anyways so I'd skip that lol... So BTW where did ya find the 3 pillar ? I can only find the 2..

That was going to be my next question...found lots of one and two, no three.

Sorry full instrument cluster means all the gauges, fuel, oil, volts, temp, tach. So I have those covered.

Thats what I'm looking for my Jeep but I dont know if they make that for the '91 style... I'm sure they do, Mines from the stone age :smiley-laughing021:
I was thinking of just taking the whole dash gauge out and make my own panel with Auto Meter gauges..

Thats what I want to do, swap out my cluster for a full package.
I have been told I need a 98 to 00. For it to work right.
I have a 98.

Muddy, I would opt for at least the tranny temp. If you had an OBA you could go air pressure too. Maybe even engine oil temp.

As to the fuel pressure..they make them now that run as a remote. the actual unit is under the hood, a electric gauge is inside

Heya Tony did you ever get that pillar pod?
If so how did it come out? any photos?
I just got mine in last night and tried it up and it looks sharp but mey have to do a little cutting on the top as its hitting the head liner I'll have some photos once I'm done but I wont have any gauges for it yet as I'm looking to see what kinds I want....
I also got mine in gray so I didn't have to paint it.

I think for me personally... I would go with

Tranny Temp
Oil Temp
OBA Air Pressure

I was thinking about seeing if my local shop could make me a custom pillar using a spare stock pillar so that it all was smooth and looked like it came that way from the factory... maybe one day!!!

I'm hoping to have the gauges the week after next as I had to order the flywheel today and should have it by thursday to put the motor back in the jeep...:patriot:

You can put a fuel pressure guage inside your Xj ya know.Auto-Meter makes a fuel pressure isolator so you don't have to run it inside the cabin of your Xj.

Tony what you need is a boost gauge and an N20 gauge. Oh and all the other stuff to make it actually need those gauges.

Or you could pick one of these up.. http://www.rippmods.com/RIPP_Supercharger_for_2004_2006_JEEP_Wrangler_TJ_p/0306tj-sds-1.htm

Either way would be awesome on a nicely built stroker engine...

the proper (safe) place for a fuel pressure gauge is outside the cockpit. Inside, if the tube fails, you are covered in fuel and that isn't good anyway you look at it.

I was looking at fuel pressure gauges that are remote, so they are only electrically connected to the sensor. They have them but at $200 I think I can just lift the hood to have a look. :D

Since I have the 3 hole a-pillar pod installed and have 2 holes starring at me too and from work, I've decided that transmission temp, engine vacuum and on board air make the most sense for me.

The engine vacuum because it can be used to increase fuel economy and detect any old vacuum hoses that fail during a daily drive, or off road.

The on board air gauge I like more since it would allow be to start off cheap with a 2.5 gallon tank mounted under the Jeep. I could fill it from my home compressor or at a rare gas station that has air, or even rarer a pay for air that has enough air pressure to fill it. :mock:

The air pressure gauge mounted in the pod would be a great indicator as to my need to fill the tank or not. I can then later put a air compressor on it then control (from my over head switch box) and monitor the air pressure from the a-pillar pod gauge.

Well I have the gauges installed unfortunately the Sun vacuum gauge doesn't sit at 0, it about 4, so the readings are off. The Viair air pressure gauge is very nice, but not connected to anything... yet.

Ok so the replacement vacuum gauge came in. Just need to swap it out and send the old one back. Oh and it read zero not 5 psi like the first one did sitting in the box! :bang:
