Glad you joined our group XJXtian!

Are you an old Jeeper, or new to the hobby? What brings you to our site? Do you have an off road monster, a daily driver, or something in between?

Check out "Announcements" "How to post an image" for help posting images.

Hey guys!

Well, I'm gonna bore you with my story...but I'll keep it brief.

First, I met Mudderoy @ ClubXJ and he told me about his awesome site....I thought I'd registered before, but apparently NOT...so, here I am.

I'll flash back to 1990. I was 19 and bought myself a 1990 Jeep YJ. I loved it. I never wheeled it...just ran thru mud puddles. Sold it a couple years later.

Okay, flash ahead to 2006. Nope, not a Jeep. I bought an '05 Xterra while living in Alaska. (I was getting ready to move back to the east coast ~grew up in MA~and wanted a good solid rig) I never wheeled it in Alaska, but when i got home 2 months after buying it up there...I hopped in with an offroad club in PA and brought my Xterra to PARAGON *moment of silence* and wheeled the hell out of it. (also met my husband that day!!!)

In the months to follow, I lifted it, put on bigger tires, did some mods (some you could see, some you couldn't) Here's a pic of it at a show and shine..I know it's too clean, but they said SHINE....so I waxed it and made it pretty!!!

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/xterraxtian/PICT0027.jpg

Anyway...I wheeled it everywhere...PARAGON (before they closed down) and RAUSCH CREEK in PA. MA BELL in MA. PiNEBARRENS in NJ. State parks, etc etc. It's name was Pete. Most people thought I was with "pete" not Chris!!!

okay, I'm dragging this out and you're probably like :indifferent0020: :lame:

Anyway, I totaled Pete...it was the saddest day:

Okay...enough boring stuff....I bought a POS 1990 Cherokee Pioneer

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/xterraxtian/100_0495.jpg

This thing was so bad off, it barely could make it across town....forget making it up to the ORV park!!!

Sold it. Made $400 on the deal (we did a ton of work on it though)

THEN, I saw my current beauty at a dealership and fell in love!!! It's a 1999 Cherokee Classic. It's so insanely clean...inside, there's no wear at all...looks brand new. I bought it on a thursday, and on friday we drove it 9 hours to our honeymoon spot!!! It ran like a champ and still to this day has not let me down. I've had it 3 months. Not done anything to it mod wise. Keep going back and forth on whether to lift it and all that, or keep it like it is and buy another to lift/beat on.

Here are some pics:

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/xterraxtian/100_1120-1.jpg

It is the smallest one in the pic...but did everything the others did!!!

People always make short posts here. You could have easily double the length of your post and I would have liked it more.

You said YOU totaled it, it doesn't look like it was your fault though. What happened?

It was my fault...although I was never cited. There were over 50 accidents that morning due to black ice. As a matter of fact, when the accident happened , it was still dark out. The pics were taken about 45 minutes later and you can still see the pavement is icy (it's not 'wet', that's the glare of black ice) even the firemen were falling down crossing the road to get to us.

Anyway....I was coming around that turn (no, not speeding) and my butt end swung around and the guy in the hardbody was coming in the opposite direction and we hit. He had no front end left. My axle came out 6 inches and the frame twisted all the way to the front. even the gear shift/center console was all popped out and twisted. Hit HARD.

I miss it. Loved that thing.

Thanks you guys!

Well, I go back and forth between keeping this one the way it is and buying another to modify or building this one up.

I think mine is in super shape and toy with the idea of making it a show Jeep. (I know, I know...) I'll lift it a small amount, do a couple things, but keep it pretty much all original...no new bumpers or anything.

The other idea is to put a 6.5 long arm on. Cut a bit and add flat fenders. 33's (Cooper Discoverer STTs). Front winch bumper. Rear tire carrier. And I'm really digging that rag-top sliding roof.

But all this will most likely happen to the 2nd XJ. I just cannot see doing much more than a 3" lift to the one i have now. It's perfect. hahhaa

But I can't wait to build one up. It'll happen by spring time.

Yeah I noticed how clear they were. Mine were factory tint except for front drivers/passenger side windows.

You've modified before so you probably won't make this mistake, but before you put a 3" lift on there consider a 4.5". Time and time again people go with a small lift and wished they had gone higher.

RC 4.5" with 32x11.5x15 and 10x15 Alloy wheels.

And I would add this XJ backbone from DETOURS, along with a winch

Just a suggestion of course.

Ohhhh, that first pic is NICE!!!! (okay....I cannot find the right word....it's amazing!!!!)

It looks like this one that I grabbed off of a search (Google searched "Jeep Cherokee XJ" and it came up) and kept cuz I liked the look of it so much. For a second I thought 'holy cow, it's his' when you posted up the picture....but it's got different wheels.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p79/xterraxtian/dsc05318za7.jpg

Anyway...I was thinking the same thing about the 4.5. I just don't want to do much else....very much like your first pic. As for your rig NOW....I'd like for my other one to look that good!

Oh hey...i wanted to ask.......what's up with your roof rack going all the way to the front....and the other two rigs have the same thing. Mine doesn't. Must be the years.

I received the most compliments on it when it was at that stage of development. I think many people recognize the Cherokee but it somehow looks different. You know like it's been going to the gym a lot, so people just have to compliment it. Now I get compliments from fellow Jeepers. Usually on the front bumper. I think it makes the "normals" (non-jeepers) nervous or scared now! :smiley-laughing021:

It's just gone from uber stock looking to bad *** looking.

I hope to get my daughters one to drive and share. I would like to do the 4.5" lift and DETOURS tailbone for the spare tire. Maybe the backbone and a winch but a winch might be a little extreme for them. I like them with all their fingers, ya know!

Here is the Jeep XJ I found on the Internet prior to the start of my build.

I only differed that I used 10x15 wheels instead of 8x15 wheels.

Could just be a package thing. I noticed yours doesn't have fog lights, tow hooks, or factory tint. Mine had all of that and the UpCountry package.
I really thought mine was the top of the line until I saw the Blue XJ on "Cast Away" with Tom Hank. His characters Jeep XJ had a sun roof.

Only if you went on the concentration camp diet. They only opened up 3". And they all leaked when it rained.
