I'm just thinking no money to do anything...

Has anyone done this? Any downside to it?

I've wanted to do something like that but I have no idea where to start, and the lack of funding as well.

It is not a mod I would do if I lived in the Pacific North West because of the amount of rain. If I was to do it, the rag top would come down as far as the rain gutters and the doors would be soft doors to go with it or have half doors like a TJ

Have a feeling, without the cage inside it maybe a little floppy.

Here is Jp mag doing the install.

I haven't done one to a Jeep... but have installed a rag top like that in a few different model cars while I was stationed in Germany... Never had any issues with them leaking... and that is with an inexperienced installer... I thought about doing a similar idea, but probably alot smaller on my XJ at one point in time... but for me if I am considering installing that much of a soft top to my XJ, I will just trade it for a Wrongler of some model... that is the only real thing that keeps me from wanting to either let my XJ go for a Wrongler, or just purchasing another Jeep is the security of the soft tops... and hating the hard top... if I wanted a hard top I would just stick with the XJ... But I think if I had the money to do a cage... and wasnt' worried about the dishonest people that live near me... I would go for one of these... and go doorless with my XJ...

I guess the down side would be security. Sure would be nice to have the top rolled back from time to time though.

Streetbeat is who I got mine from, customer service blows even business to business.....I tied the body to the cage otherwise I dont feel an XJ is up to it.

Its called a california top ... there really is NO down side to this setup its water tight in closed position VW was the original CO to do this on the Bug I never thought about doing this on the XJ... Definetly considering it now... You could STILL open the top even with the factory roof rack AND an exo but the EXO would still need to be about three inches over the roof to clear the canvas rolled back.
