4.35 am sat morn woken to a 7.1 quake :stars:
sunday avfo mrs gets bit by next doors dog, two hours later at ae she had to get bite cleaned and a shot:mad0090:

have talked to warren hes ok , and did see kaney posting on here :thumbsup:

Thanks for the links to the articles Wayne. Looks like the aftershocks are getting smaller at least. I have never heard of so many afterwards. Looks like brick buildings and houses didn't do so well there. Glad you are safe.

That's some pretty good sized cracks. The really bad quakes are when the ground moves sideways, like some of those pics. Looks like anything made of brick just fell down.

weirdest thing for me was coming out of doctors last night after dark , the old railway station with Hugh clock tower ,clock had stopped at time of quake .. its now a moving theater , car park empty and time saying 4.35 am ...unreal

WOW that was some experience, was at work when it hit (work for a trucking company) and i got out of the depo in a hell of a hurry when pallets started falling in the wharehouse just outside the window, a few meters from the doorway i was in.

But all in all we were very lucky, at that time of day (4.45am) not too many people are at work otherwise there would have been heaps of casualties.

been over 130 after shocks , only 3 or so early morning in the 4 s, they are the ones i hate , wake up to house shaking not knowing if its a real big one again.. yep tony they say we still might get a shake around 6 ...that's a big jolt with all the damage we have ..
shes stressful times down here , ya can see it on the faces of people.....90 % has power again , not sure on water , army is in helping , am trying to work but the old brains just not in that game at mo .....least the shit weather stayed away....

well been a week now , some say we still might get a big jolt , they say after shocks could go on for weeks ... biggest 4.2 was at just after 10.00pm last night.have had two this morning .. more cars on roads last few days ..... still getting shakes but only feel the odd one over 4 ....most schools opening on Monday ...still a lot of demolition work going on , then the rebuild starts .....

read in today's paper we have had over 1100 shakes since the 7.1 three weeks ago :stars: .. have not been into the main part of town yet ,some places are still off bonds .. have seen a lot of damage driving around to different job sites...what it has done to roads is quite unreal ... still over a 1000 homes that still cant use toilets or showers ....the council and the powers to be have done a great job stitching the city together for the mean time ,,, we have been blessed with nice weather thank goodness since the 4th ...well the 4th of September 4.35am :jumping0044:

Hey man glad your family is back with ya. I live in socal earthquake country and we haven't had a good one since last thanksgiving. However the experts say we are due for the big one. People I know that live in tornado alley that think I'm crazy livin here. I'll take the quakes any day. On the up side at least we have building codes unlike Haiti and Chile.

yep spring is here , that river is running high now ,, gets the run off from the rain in the mountains plus snow melt ..... take a lot of water to flood i think .....

well just had a good look around the house and we have a fair bit of damage :mad: the house has moved and has sunk in one corner .. we have big cracks developing all over the older part of the house ....

I recommend letting it sit, you know to gel, just after a quake. That should give it the best chance of solidifying before the next rumble! For extra rumble in your Jello add broccoli!

Well, that was interesting reading. There may be some validity to that article, the part about the close moon triggering a quake that is about to happen anyway. Changes in gravitational attraction is measurable and high school physics students do those types of calculations. However the part about high pressure from air causing that, that is like saying I am putting a quarter ounce of something on the entire land and causing millions of tons of earth to move. That I don't buy it. I would say that any change in weather, if any is the result of the quake conditions. The part about peoples health affected could be accurate, we after all are electrochemically regulated. That business about the velocity of the moon, nope. That is a function of its elliptic orbit so that forces are equalized.

I sure do hate this. At least with a hurricane there is a predicted landfall, duration, and exit. You can almost set you watch by it. This Earthquake stuff can happen and any time. I guess we all could be struck by a meteorite or stray bullet at any time as well, we just choose to ignore it.

, ok Greenpeace and alot of other tree huggers.... we need to get an XJTalk rally and all that CAN load up on a boat in L.A. and (with our jeeps, its the best tool to have)get on a barge and head over to NZ and start the earthquake relief, the sad thing is that these shakes have been going on for almost a year now... DAILY, my question is this do they start the rebuilding of christchurch NZ or wait until all the quakes have stopped, in the south we dont start repairng damages from a tornado or hurricane until after is has passed but as tony said we usually knw when a hurricane is gonna hit with a few days notice sometimes up to two weeks notice and as for a tornado we know what tornado weather is like and we can brace for it, but how long can you brace for an eventual quake? I lived in California for 13 years and experienced my fair share of quakes and still that doesnt compare to what NZ has gone through since december.

well I will not forget monday and still shaking but feel for those that have lost love ones 98 confirmed deaths nearly 300 missing
took me over 3 hrs to get to a friends house from work a trip normally 15 mins long borrowed her bike and beat all the trafic to this side of town

I am not a rubber necker so have and will not take photos of other misfortune

our house fine 3 or 4 glasses left from 40 ish and hrs cleaning up'both stepdaughters have had the chimneys fall down one taking there power line with it power company hoping to have 75% of chch back on power by tonight but are talking months for sewage, waste water and drinkable water to be back on
will prob head out to our caravan in the next couple of days and get out portapottys, solar shower bags for showers have set up 12 volt shower so can have first wash since monday!!
