I get an awful vibration through out my XJ when backing up, why would this occur, driveshafts out of balance, transmission, front, rear end what could be the causes? Thanks again

I'm going to guess, and it is just that a guess. Transmission.
Well I was reading that it could be transmission or motor mount issues as well. That would be much easier and cheaper to fix.

Check your motor mounts

Not to sound stupid but how do I check the motor mounts? Also I can notice the vibration in "drive" at around 1500 RPM's.

Put the parking brake on, lift the hood and have someone try to back up while you watch the motor. It one side lifts up, look down by the frame and you will see it is loose or separated.
