Hey guys just getting some advice for CB radio placement. Im looking to get one by end of the week. What are some good places to set up CB radio? Anyone having any favorites? Id love to install it to ceiling bewteen driver and passenger fold down mirrors, as shown below. Has anybody done it this way? Any advice on how to install it like this would be awesome. :)

Thats how mine is installed, its a compact though, I will see if I can get a picture or two to show you.

I like having it up there, easy to hear and its up out of the way, tuck the mic cord behind the rearview and you don't even know its there.

I had my 2 meter radio installed in my old 4x4 pickup like this. It was great. I had the CB mounted under the dash. Of course the full sized pickups had plenty of under dash space to mount things.

There is a spare that runs across there "somewhere" that if you could attach a piece of fairly then metal to where the visors clip to and that spar you'd have a nice solid mounting surface under the headliner to mount a heavy radio to, and you wouldn't be restricted to having it pushed way back to the windshield.

I think this type of mount works better in a vehicle with a larger cab, but if the radio is small enough, it's great. Also in a high water crossing your CB is more likely to survive. Might not be a critical things as CB's are cheap, but if you are in an emergency situation you might not want to lose your means of communications.

BTW, you might want to let that mic cord hand down. The constant strain on the mirror is going to pop it off the windshield. It will happen on a bright sunny hot day. You'll get in and think "what's different?!?!?"

I've mounted cb's in a couple past trucks here. I pulled the headliner out and used liquid nail to secure some 1/4 inch masonite in the area I was going to mount the cb. Use a 2x4 to hold pressure on it while the liquid nail cures (overnight is best), and then replace the headliner. You can also run your wiring while the headliner is out so you have the nice clean look.

The cord isn't that heavy, but when the mirror falls, I will find another method to hang the cord. Thanks for looking out though!

When I put the radio up all I did was take a piece of aluminum and run it from one visor hook screw to the other and bolted my radio bracket to that.

I think there was a write up around somewhere on the interweb. Using a ping pong paddle as a backer?

And besides, the mirror that was in the jeep when i got was 3 times as big as that one some sort of lane changer bus mirror, and it was still hanging on!

i had one mounted up on the roof like in the pics above. the guy that installed it did a dang good job, he ran all the wires through the liner so you could not see the wires and the mike was in the dash so the cord did not hang down. sorry i don't have the jeep any more or i would take some pics..
in my new jeep i mounted in on the pass side by the shifter, i don't mind it right their.

Mic in the dash sounds like a great idea, however I would be concerned about loss of signal on a long run like that. You could also pick up some noise depending how what type of wire was used to extend the mic connection. Shielded and proper ground would be important.

What is kind of cool about my radio is that the mic connector is a standard RJ-45 telephone connector. Like the kind used for network cables and switches.
