Yes, a must have for an auto tranny. I have one for engine oil too.

Yeah sorry I meant engine oil. Can you give me some details on yours? I'm thinking about this being my next step to cooling down the engine at highway speeds.

I'll be moving the transmission cooler from in front of the radiator first though.

To do the engine oil, you will need a remote oil filter kit. Then it is a matter of putting the oil cooler in the line. In my case, the capability was already there since an engine oil cooler is stock on the 4.3. After that, plumbing is up to you. There are some that have just run rubber hose and called it good. I chose to run stainless steel braided line for protection. Of course, that increases the expense due to fittings involved. But I have peace of mind with it though. For the cooler I used a thermostatically controlled fan operated cooler. However, the cooler works well enough I have not gotten the fans to come on yet. So it appears the coolers drop the oil from 200* to below 160* without the need of the fans. Beyond that, I ended up with a highly customized piece of plumbing which may not be relevant for you. But I can give you helpful hints and good old fashioned harassment.

I've never thought about trying to run a cooler on the oil. That's a darn good idea.

Here is mine. Not the usual way it is done, but I got the idea from an expedition XJ.

Platinum might be better with red.
