would like to fix the leaking core ..is there a easier way

Apparently not. The early XJs like I have had a little panel you could remove to access he core. But some engineer had a brain fart and eliminated it.

o dear , don't like the look of this ...have to replace mine over summer cause aren't going through another winter without heat

before you do all that you could try stop leak, im not sure how that stuff works, if it needs to be operating temp or not, but if it doesnt i would just circulate the water and stop leak in the heater core alone and not through the rest of the engine, connect the two hoses out of and into the heater core and add that stupid TEE thing that they sell, pour the stop leak in and hook up a water hose and let it circulate for about 20 minutes or something. worth a shot even if it doesnt work.
