I have an 1989 Jeep Wagoneer Limited. It has the quad lights low beam on top high beam on bottom. Ok like most jeep owners the headlights are terrible. The size of my headlights are H4703 Low beam and H4701 High beam.I measured them and they came close to 4x6 inches. My question is the only 4x6's i can find are to replace H4666 - H4656. Whats the difference? I want to change my sealed beams to an open bulb. Would these fit in my housing? Does anyone know of a conversion or mod that i can do that will work for my jeep?

I read this post awhile ago and have been doing my own research on this subject as I to have a wagoneer (1990). From what I have found the 4x6" hid lights will fight physically in the openings but the contacts of the original light is a "one of a kind style" for wagoneers. They are micro prongs about half the size of your standard head light connecting tabs. There is a whole thing of using HID ballast kits to wire up the removable bulbs to work but I have yet to find one kit specificlly for the wagoneer and its smaller wiring tabbed plugs. There seems to be Universal hid wiring kits that look like you cut and hard wire in the needed wiring but I have yet to get full specs on this either. Eventually I will bite the bullet and buy what I think will work and give it a shot.

Everyone likes HIDs. However you can get the H4 housings to fit easier. The H4 would give you a complete high and low beam for each set. You would however have to change the plug for the bulb to the three prong and wire accordingly. Kind of an intriguing idea actually to have two complete sets of headlights.

i realize this thread is ancient but in my searches of the firebird forums.....they have the same lights as us waggy guys i came across these lights the firebird guys were getting from LMC truck to upgrade from the craptastic sealed beam lights we have been stuck with for so long and having driven cars with good lighting for the last 2yrs i dont think ill be able to go back to the shitty waggy lights.

Get cibies or autopals if you are on a budget... And a relay harness. In fact get the harness first, it will make the most difference.

I would not use 2x H4s because then you might get pulled over because the LEO would think you have your brights on. However H4 lows an H1 highs w/ relays and heavy gauge wire should be more than acceptable but if you do it and decide you need more you can always add overwatt bulbs, at that point they are a drop in.

I have Hellas and can finally see at night.

the harness/relay upgrade will make the most significant difference, on my 92 golf the previous owner had converted to high wattage H4s but simply spliced the H4 plug in place of the factory harness and it always amazed me that the lights sucked so bad....until i finally took the time to upgrade the harness and relay the lights and it was a world of difference.

with the setups i posted they do run H4/H1[9006/9005] and LMC says DOT/SAE approved.....for the lenses at least if your a douche and run stupid bright lights then yea you will get nailed and deserve to.

Now that I think about it, I think I have some old E-codes in that size... they were in my VW Scirocco. If you want me to dig them out and have a look at them PM me. I don't remember if they are Cibie or Hella. Very old, the reflectors aren't 100% pristine, but they have a great beam pattern compared to DOT lights. I think they have some stoneguard on them which would have to go if you were to use them, it's undoubtedly old and yellow by now (they've been in storage for something like 10 years, never had another opportunity to use them.)

Ok threads a little stale, I know:rolleye0012:

But I must know, did you actually preform this mod? Or are you saying it might work? I scored a complete waggy clip in prestine shape for 35 bones, harness and all..gotta love junkyard hunting:)
So I swapped it but jeez do these lights suck! I'm coming from Silverstars and a HD harness. These Waggy lights are horrible!!!!

So I'm looking for a upgrade and I found this thread and this
http://www.eurolamps.com/eurolamps/camaro_headlights.htm

Eurolamps & LMC are the same thing, LMC being the better of the 2...clear housings vs fluted, better pattern and such! I've done hours of digging on the firebird forums and similar lol. But I have yet to find someone who has done the mod or confirmed 100% it actually will work?

I'm getting a HD harness made in order to run all 4 lights at once, and would like to have changeable bulbs. I would like a 3000K bulb in the lower lights to act as a fog light and then 5000k in the uppers for normal driving.
Of course aiming all 4 accordingly to not get into trouble or blind people.
Any advice here guys?

Don't worry about how old a thread is. If you, or anyone, as a question or something to add, post it. That's what a forum is for, or should be. :cheerleader:

no i have not done this yet, its on my to do list but the lights are the same housing, there were only a few vehicles that i know of that shared that size of light hence the lack of aftermarket selection for better lighting, that generation of GMC[88,89] and firechickens[98-01] are the only ones i know of that shared these lights with waggie guys.

if you go to sylvania automotive and search 1989 jeep wagoneer , select headlights, they list 4701 and 4703

Then search 1989 GMC Pickup, Fullsize w/REC 4 H/L select headlights it lists 4701 and 4703.

same bulb so theres no reason these shouldnt work at most i could see having to wire up a different plug but thats a simple conversion you can even buy adapter harnesses if you dont like wiring

Good luck, if ya do it post pics, once my jeep gets back on the road i give it a week before i give in and buy these cause those stock headlights are comparable to a candle.....and suck compare to the nighthawks i run in my civic.
