Does anybody know if a chain from a 231 t-case is the same as a chain from a 242 case? Please don't post unless you know, theres a lot of folks out there pretending to be a wrench head and they chime in ALL THE TIME!
I really just need to knw if they are interchangeable Mine keeps stretching due to low fluid levels but I cannot keep the levels up due to a bad seal between the yoke and the output... it isnt the seal its the yoke that has worn down too much and I can't find a decent one at a JY and the dealer wants 137.00 for a new one!

Can't answer for the chain, but new yokes can be had for cheaper. Here is one from Rustys that would be half just as an example. It is a YJ yoke and would be an upgrade for a lifted rig. http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=LTY&Category_Code=SYE

If I still had my 231, I would just send it to you. We can get them cheap at the pick and pull here.

i have a chain out of my old one at my dad's place, you can have it if you need it, not sure what condition it is, it was in it when the case blew into peices, but the chain was still wrapped around the gears.

let me know i can yank it this weekend.

i also have the rest of the case, if there is anything you need out of it. im not doing anything with it, i just need the speedo gear and some other sensor.

You do know that you can unbolt the transfer case to change out parts? You don't have to crack it open like a crab!

Wow! That's hard to look at. The parts inside look brand new too!

Wonder if all the INSIDE parts are interchangeable
basically can I pull the main shaft and the sprockets and swap them with mine?

only one way to find out:rotfl2:

just look up part numbers and see if they match. i would think that they would be the same, maybe different gearing.

i didnt have my tool kit with me. lol, thats what happens when you have a bad centering ball joint(or whatever the f its called) in the front driveshaft.

edit: it wont work. either a new 231/242 or a new chain.

Here's all I can tell ya about the chain swap:
Np242 uses a 36 link 1" chain Part #83504575
the Np231 uses a 31 link 1" chain part # 4338935

Hope this helps
