I've been seeing this on trucks and vans for years. Is there a law that requires companys to put the word FISH on the outside of vehicles?

HAven't seen it in Iowa. I notice that truck appears to be hauling food type stuff. Is it just grocery trucks or all trucks?

I see it all the time down here. It is on everything from Ice Cream trucks to HEB trucks. I have no idea if it is a state or national law that requires it. Whatever it is it must be required by some entity.

I've never seen it on any trucks here in Indiana. Used to drive a forktruck in a popcorn factory and none of the trucks or trailers that pulled in had it on them.

Ok I was curious so I posted this in a Texas forum... this is the first answer I received.

"It is a state law passed in 1985 that requires all refrigerated trucks that carry seafood so game wardens can identify them as being in compliance with the licensing requirements and permit the wardens to focus on inspecting the unmarked trucks that are by default violating the law if they contain seafood of any type."

Excellent! I really didn't know this was a Texas only thing until several of you replied with you had never seen "FISH" on vehicles. Now this information makes perfect sense. I mean why else other than a law would people put "FISH" on sometimes an otherwise unmarked delivery/transport truck?

I mean I never saw "CORN", "WATERMELONS" or "CONDOMS"! :smiley-laughing021:

BTW, what FORUM did you go to? I couldn't think of anywhere to ask this question and I'm pretty good with this Internet stuff.

I am still not sure I understand it though.... if someone was breaking the law couldn't they just put FISH on their trailer to keep the wardens off of them?

I think that tells them what trucks to inspect and make it really easy to write a citation when they find a truck carrying seafood that is unmarked.

Maybe if the truck has fish and unmarked, then they are illegal alien fish? :D

I have a friend who is a game warden and I will try to get some clarification from him when I see him.
