Not sure In Texas but here in Ca a smog and brake and lamp inspection is all ya need, I would check with DPS I'm sure it wont be much.

I think it depends on the type of title you get. There is a salvage and something else. One means you can use/sell parts off the vehicle the other means you can fix it and drive it.

Here in Oklahoma I didn't have to do anything with my 82 Chevy... didn't even have to title it as salvaged or anything. Heck I drove it without repairing it (except I put on another bed) for many years afterwards.

Not bad.... you could find a decent XJ for less than $2200 and use whatever you needed off the old one. Or depending on your vehicle situation (other vehicle to drive) you could find a cheap not running or 2wd XJ and swap everything over and have a nice chunk of change to either modify it more and put towards other things (bills, women?, etc...)

How would you spend Rene's money?

Different rear end. 4.56 gears and a selectable lockers! Of course a new 4.7L stroker would be nice a$$well.

Take it. That is a fair deal from an insurance Co. Get yourself another one and put all the good stuff in it and then some new goodies.

well we cant really say what to do cause we still have not heard the FULL damage report... I heard through the grapevine that your rear shackle mounts is tweaked??? There is a fab thing that lots of XJ guys have done where they box in the existing factory shackle bracket and make a new one a few inches lower thus giving you a little more boost in the rear... If thats all thats wrong in the back then I say do that and pocket little over 2k and get some more lift and a new set of tires or perhaps a long arm upgrade2k goes a pretty good ways when your already lifted!!!
what I would do if I had 2k and my jeep was still in good operating condition is new axles...junkyard one at least d44 or d60 geared at 4:56 maybe a little lower and a selectable rear locker and long arms... I can do all this for 2200 just takes time to hunt the parts down!

oh also when they totaled out my jeep they gave me back the blue title and said when I Re-registered it (prior to any further street use) I would have to get a salvage title THEN I would have to bring the vehicle BACK to DPS for an inspection by a DOT person or someone special then they would issue a "rebuilt" title either one though you can drive it anywhere the ONLY difference it makes is when you sell the vehicle the new buyer has to be informed of the current status of the vehicle meaning If I buy your jeep then by law you have to tell me the vehicle is salvaged or it has been rebuilt from salvage.
