I thought i would start a thread about my stroker build im gettin ready to start. i know there are threads all over the net and different options in which to build. im goin with the 4.5l stroker.

Mine will consist of the following parts:

Jeep 4.2L 3.895" stroke crank
Jeep 4.2L 5.875" rods
Jeep 4.0L 3.875" standard bore pistons 9.7:1 CR
Comp Cams #68-231-4 206/214 degree camshaft
Stock 0.051" head gasket
0.081" quench height
Ford 24lb/hr injectors with adjustable FPR or MAP adjuster for
260hp @ 4850rpm, 321lbft @ 3500rpm

i will be doin a mild port job on the head and will also be adding a fox body mustang 5.0 throttle body, 2.5" exhaust, and maybe a 01 intake.

i was thinking about boring the block but its not goin to be needed still has cross hatches on cyl walls and no ring wear lip at top of cyl.

So far i have got the crank and rods. as long as things go right i will be orderin the rest of the parts next fri.

This is great! When I rebuild my engine I'm going the stroker route. Currently I'm wanting to do a 4.7L but as I learn things I may not. Like I think to get 4.7L out of it, I'd have to have it bored .060 over. Might be too thin.

I'm looking forward to your information!

for power to cost ratio i didnt think it was cost effective for me to do the 4.7

I may be mis-informed, but I like the idea of 300hp out of my straight 6.

im lookin at gettin:
260hp @ 4850rpm, 321lbft @ 3500rpm

at a pretty low cost and to do the 4.7 cost was goin to be almost double to build.

here is the ratings i have found on the 4.7:
270hp @ 4800rpm, 335lbft @ 3400rpm

Collecting parts, getting the machine shop stuff done, painting, assembly, it's all just fun. Building the engine isn't too bad, installing it is the bitch!

I'm remembering building my Chevy 327 for my 72 Nova.

i just started collecting parts for this thing this past tues. i knew if i held out i would find what i wanted/needed cheap.

the hardest i have done has to be a tie between a 468bbc in '67 c-10 or a 400 sbc in a 77 vette that had a twisted frame that was unknown at the time.

sorry to disappoint everyone but this build is goin to go slow and take a while now. i came across a hell of a deal on a tow rig i cant pass up and gettin that rather than build the stroker. still goin to keep roundin up parts lowly and buildin it but im not goin to be able to fork out a bunch of money on parts and machine work right now

i won the injectors today, pickin up valve springs and retainers very soon, may be able to pick up the mustang tb soon, i will order the new parts as i can. and same with machine work. im not havein it bored at all. i can hone it myself if need be dont think it needs it. i had the head off around like 5k miles ago still had crosshatches on cyl walls and no piston lip at top of cylinders.
