01-08-2013, 03:22 AM
well have used the jeep to tow my trailer around the section tiding up the pile of dirt left over from me playing on a digger for a day :shocker:it went like concrete and now sounds like the starter has shate it self again :bang:

but have finally stripped the trailer down moved the axle forward bout 4" and painted it a nice kind of dark yellow, just like the jeep a 'warren' brew a bit of this and a splash of that
had a few probs with the compressor while painting it took a lot longer than planned and the forcast rain came early that predicted so I had just about run out of paint when it hit so finished the painting in the rain the thru the axle in in the rain to put it in the garage to dry
have now replaced the wiring, lights and the deck is all screwed down just got to finsh the mud guards and number plate and light and all legal again
sorry no photo's can't get them off my phone :bang:

Mates young bloke in sydney has one for a trail basher. Hes finding its a bit bigger to poke around the scrub than his XJ was tho.

He recently engine swapped the little V8 for a diesel and is much happier.

They are a little bit like a jeep ... in that, they have their own mechanical "peculiarities" .. and the electrics are just as bad .. :rotfl2:

well public holiday over here today and with not nice weather I interfered with the toy

well been pondering and thinking and just plan putting stuff off

have pulled old brake pedal and have temp bolted in the vitara one I got off V8rapid? just got to work out the pedal travel before I bolt it up properly
anyone with the distance of the pedal travel, due to my floor can't work it from the floor.

have a set of commy front calipers here and a set that turoa gave me they may be getting bolted in for a starter, unless I left the drums on for now, Thoughts

and still debating about a power upgrade thinking commy v6 with an auto, the commy auto would be too long I think must get under one of the one's in the garage and measure it

well that bout all folks

Do you still have the double anchor 9" brakes?

cj4a nz
07-13-2015, 05:12 AM
I think they could be 9", the main prob is the non assisted master cylinder if I just replace that I will need to upgrade the rest of the system .................................................. .....................................again
easier if I just do it all in one hit

4.3LXJ
07-13-2015, 08:40 AM
Might not be relevant in your part of the world, but I upgraded my CJ5 brakes with 11" brakes, and used the same master cylinder. Much better stopping. Those double anchor brakes never were any good for stopping unless you had a country mile (kilometer in your case) to do it

cj4a nz
07-15-2015, 05:04 AM
I think the main problem I have is the location of the master cylinder, mine is on the chassis rail right where the tyres rub and is not vacum assisted, real old shool
I am guessing your is of the firewall with vacuum assisted
will get a pic of mine in the weekend and post it

4.3LXJ
07-15-2015, 09:48 AM
All the CJs had that same master cylinder bolted on the frame rail. My CJ had very few miles on it and it would not stop worth shit. The basic design of those brakes goes back to when nothing could go faster than 35 mph anyway due to the roads. All the CJs were notorious for not stopping well.

well have puller her pan off and look tired but serviceable.
Head off today, look's ok inside no scoring I can see, pay pull motor and box to split them and check both , something's not adding up here if I put it back together will be a tight shit and reused the head gasket look's like new and would have to import one so $$ wasted.

on a side not bought a 12000lb winch with rope the other day :rolleye0012::rolleye0012:
too good a deal to pass up, may just fill engine bay up with batteries and winch every where :shocker::shocker: we do have a few n200 batteries lying around work:D
