Hey all,

Brian from san diego here

I'm SandiegoOverland on Naxja, and bigdaddy on Expeditionportal...

glad to be here.

I'm running a 1992 4.0l, aw4, np231, d30, d35(got a 8.25 in my garage)

so far I've added a logans metal bumper, and have done about a $1000.00 of preventative, restorative maintenence.

Next up will likely be the suspension, as its completely clapped out.

Cheers,
Brian

Hey all, thanks for the warm welcome.

Here's a pic, after just a few days of owning the Jeep that my 5 year old daughter has dubbed, "Karn"...I've been told that its bavarian for "rig" and celtic for "pile of rocks" so, pretty fitting..haha

I am torn at this point as to whether I'm going to do a "super-stock" sleeper build, or if I'm going to lift it and lock it into a uber-capable daily driver. Since I'm still deciding, I've focused on baselining the maintenence in this first year, and am happy to say that the truck has been 100% reliable in the past year of DDing 40+ miles per day. I've done all the work myself in my garage with my Haynes manual-crosschecked with info from the internet. (has been one of the easiest cars to work on so far for me. Very intuitive.)

Mods/work to date:

General maintenence
-Steering shaft replacement
- New radiator
-New thermostat
- New upper/lower rad hoses
- New TPS sensor
- Replaced cap, rotor, plug, plug wires, fuel filter
-Sanded, prepped, painted body/trim with
rustoleum enamal to fix busted clear coat.
- Installed Cherry bomb turbo exhuast

Aftermarket/custom mods

-Stock cherokee Class III hitch
-Aftermarket 7-round/flat4 trailer wiring
-OBA compressor
-Logan's metal winch bumper
-removed stock rack bars
-Thule bars
-Camping Lab Awning

Planned mods

-Chicago electric 8000lb winch
-masterpull synthetic line
-Bajarack roof rack
-custom grill/uprights on Logan's bumper to protect front end
and mount offroad lights
-JCR stage II sliders(on the way)
-Safari snorkel
-Lower 1/4 panel trim and fold
-Upper 1/4 panel armor (JCR or similar)
-Stock swing away tire carrier (if I can find one)
-Steel rear bumper (Logan's metal or AJ's or similar)
-8.25 rear axle with 3.55 gears and aussie locker(in my garage)

Sounds to me like you already have the uber-capable bug bite. Thats a nice list and a very good start towards that. The only thing missing is a lift and taller tires.

yeah, pretty much, huh...we like to go camping mostly, but I also want to bea ble to go on impromtu trail rides, as well as have a comfy, safe daily driver...

I'll probably end up with:

3" lift, 31's or

3" lift, bushwackers, 33's, extended bumpstops...

but then I'll have to regear...:smiley-scared002:

I used to have 3" with 31s. That is the most bang for your buck you can do if you stick with the stock rims and use 10.50X31' tires. That combo is pretty good on the trail. If you use that size or even 33s, picking up axels from an XJ with the 4 cyl or v6 will give you 4.10 gears in a factory package and is the cheapest way to regear for that size tire.
