They are. They really mob off road. You cannot keep up in an XJ in the rough stuff

Thanks Jonathon. We will be doing more to it as I get time and the boy frees up some funds for it. It will move under its own power, but we expect it to throw a rod any time. Otherwise we would have put it in several military parades

As I said in the last post, it was getting ready to throw a rod. So, out the motor came.

Then we got to witness some more great marvels of Swedish engineering. First was the starter. You must remove the oil filter to do that. No pic, but it is what it is. Next we needed to put it on the engine stand. Just pull the bell housing, clutch and fly wheel right? But due to being manufactured in a country where people need to make work, not so easy. There were the usual bolts on the outside, but it wouldn't budge. We got to poking around inside there and found four bolts under the fly wheel. So, we removed the clutch and flywheel and there they were

Then it gets even better. Want to replace the rear main seal. Just pull the oil pan and then the rear main cap right. Not so fast, there were these five little bolts under the flywheel that need to be removed to access it.

So we managed to get the motor on the stand and that is it. I think this is going to be a real adventure getting into this engine

4.3LXJ,

Keep up the pace with resurrecting another Mite and renewing the Amazon motor.

Somehow got suscribed to this Mite thread. My M422A1 junk rig has the same Volvo 122 'Amazon' motor. It's seized-solid, little ROI to rebuild. The Volvo motor is 340 lbs all dressed up. Considering a retransplant with a lighter aluminum motor. Long term project after debugging a restored and a diesel mite.

We were thinking of a 2.8 V6, but we are going to rebuild the Volvo just so we can have a running rig again
