I just read an article on the Chicago Tribune website. Basically the story's author Ed Perkins thinks that it is ridiculous to add a fee ON THE CUSTOMER'S BILL for state mandated health insurance. His argument is they should put a fee for electricity, rent, and the other costs of doing business.

I couldn't find anywhere in the story how the people that have to pay the employees may be upset by the general public forcing them to pay health insurance for their employees. It may even be a way to "connect the dots" between that great idea and how it effects you the consumer.

You can read the story here :link: (http://www.chicagotribune.com/travel/family/ct-trav-0228-health-charge-20100226,0,6658174.story)

Ed doesn't say in his article, however my take on it is that he doesn't like the idea of exposing this cost to the public. You know health care for everyone is the right thing to do, and when people UNDERSTAND what the true cost to each of us is it may lose it's appeal.

We are seeing this now in the health care debate, or rather less of a debate and a ramming through process.

It is a wonderful and lofty goal for everyone to have health care, however we do not have the man power nor the money to accomplish this. Issues like illegal aliens need to be addressed before we start handing out free health care to everyone IN America. Oh and it might be more important that we have jobs so we can buy food, provide shelter, than free health care. Although other than jail the hospital would be another place we could live and have free room and meals.

I applaud the restaurant owners for placing the fee clearly on the bill of their patrons. This lets everyone know what the cost of doing the "right" thing is.

There is no free health care. This free health care is going to be paid for by everyone that works, and be free to those who don't. That little facet is completely ignored by the press and Congress when debating this subject.

This is the first step to socialism in my opinion. What is going to be next?
