A couple of years ago I was replacing my Dana 30 u-joints and wheel bearing assemblies. I was impressed just how simple everything was, and amazed how the axle just slid out with no fuss. I also recall looking at that silly little piece of plastic that keeps crud, water, mud, etc... from going into the axle tubes.

I really didn't like that thing, anyway fast forward to a few days ago. I was thumbing through a magazine and I saw something that I thought was pretty niffy. Yes I said nifty.

This is a TEN Factory Dana 30 / 44 front axle tube seal. They are around $70.

I was wondering if anyone uses/used these things, or something like them. Anyone know of any negatives using these, or these type of seals?

I have used them and installed them on a few rigs with no issues. I don't see that there worth that kinda cash but they do work. I will say that most of the larger rear end companys do not recomend them. The inner tube seal should be enough to keep oil in and moisture out. As a add on I have no problem with them, but to use them to get around a leaking axle tube seal I would say no.

If you live in the land of the temperate rain forest, ie OR and WA they can be handy. It is possible to take out that inner seal when the front axle is submerged in mud a lot. These kind of protect them in those situations.

I have always wanted these. I found these a little cheaper here.
