so my brother got me a job in granit fab shop a couple of years ago i worked my way up in the company to do everything from cutting on the saw to installing and fabing. loved it payed really good with lots of over time. with in the last two years me and my bro started our own company that we did on the side we would do one kitchen a month and split it both ways it was nice to get a 5 grand check on top of my 16 dollar a hour day job. then everything fell apart with the economy and we now both work at a local fitness company as sales people i still make about 16 a hour on a good day and i site on my butt and take calls all day. no more getting dirty and cold and wet any more. i was just wondering how many people this type of stuff affected them and now what are they doing to make ends meet?

I am barely hanging on by a thread ranching so I am currently looking at other directions and the options I have. If things do not pick up this year, I'll be forced to scale way back or even sell. But I think it'll be ok, I've been through worse before.

Well,I've been in the heating and air conditioning trades since 1977.At the age of 17 I started working for a Comercial HVAC co.,then in pipe fitting at Bath Iron Works ship yard co.,then a Heating co. till 1997... Then at that point I went out on my own and became self employed. It was scary at first but now my Heating and Cooling business maintains a customer base of about 12-1400 clients which keep me plenty busy year round....Thanks for reading.....

I'm a city letter carrier for the USPS. The bad part is they have a severe money problem right now. (lots of cuts- some in the wrong places). the good part is that I have enough time in and am old enough to retire at any time now. I was looking for something to do part-time but have not found anything.

I could say what I do, but what I do needs some history......

1982-87....USAF, Metal Fabricating Specialist......Honorable Discharge
87-88...Bounced around different fabrication shops doing you name it, biological waist to dump truck bodies.......
89-1999...Foreman of a structural steel shop from 1 to 16 stories tall, all details involved down to staircases, also bridge work, oversaw multible union crews, casino work, sanitaion......walked the beams, familiar with the spud wrench............
1999-.....Self, continued in structural business, regionally became a very well named individual.........about 8 years ago decided to add 'Jeep' into the mix inorder to expand....(Detours)......EXTREMELY busy between the two, but........the 'Jeep' portion was designed to allow me to get out of regional economy and depart the third most expensive state to do business from......
2 years later, now located in Kentucky.......it's all JEEP and doing well. It NOWHERE compares with the structural business in New England inwhich a small business could clear 20k profit in 3 weeks, no where close......at all....but,
I can always go back to it!!!!!! Meanwhile, I LOVE working with folks within the community of 'Jeep'........something you will never get in the commercial world......Here's to not going back to heavy iron!! (I do miss blue prints and nailing structural engineers for their errors!!)

Thats it, Always certified, All the time........OUT!:patriot:

I build Jeep parts.

I spent three days up there, one was a freaking blizzard, (thank God I drove the Jeep up there)!!:driving: And I came home with nothing, no free samples zip zero nadda.

I notice some are posting pic's of what they do. Here's a pic of a line of bakery equipment we built back in the '90's for Keebler in Ohio. It makes Club Crackers. About 9000# per hour.

Thankyou sir........if my tail would allow it, I'd most likely be some sort of engineer.....but I dont sit still long enough for that and rely on engineer friends who can sit down long enough to back my thoughts of fabrication, it's been kool........very kool.......and alot of fun....enjoying it while I can, once this economy levels out.....who knows what the future might hold........for now its all wishfull thinking.....

Cannot speak for ky but we are pretty stable here, but I will say the grid is as fragile as a rat shorting out a transformer, that is all it takes to get the domino effect started, once one large facility is effected the rest will follow.

I spent the better part of my life working with troubled youth on a ranch as an outdoor guide/youth worker. Great fifteen years, working with the general public and with you in the bush. I got to do alot of different things and ended up being invited to join the main team on an all aboriginal everest expedition in 94. Wasnt able to go as I was a single dad at the time and couldn't be away from my son for that long. Just as well the team didn't end up going anyways.
Government contract cutbacks and I was out of work. Ended up as a Correctional Officer working at a Max security institution. A step into the twilight zone. After eight and a half years, 2 riots and two many smash-ups and incidents I transferred to a medium security. I worked my way up to supervisor (keeper) while at the max, even made it in Readers Digest, but it was way too political and saw the dark side of a lot of people I thought highly of until then. Demoted myself to a Correctional Officer and that's were I'm staying. Just do my time and stay under the radar. Still have a fair amount of time left before parole LOL.
