Black cars look better in the shade!

Looks great, now go get some dirt on it! :)

Having 4WD means getting stuck in more inaccessible places!

Yeah. Lol. I've only had it for about 2 weeks. So I brought it home bone stock and within 3 days she looked like this. :)

But better pictures are to come as I do more upgrades and such.

It doesn't take long to get dirty out here in west Texas though.

Here is mine under garage door 3" lift and 30.5" tall tire. Looks like you would still have plenty of room for 1.5" of lift and 2" or so for about a 33" tire.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160531/6a361ca21db5b136a00116822e5cd927.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160531/93393b6554f32cf9d31fe91bd3391c37.jpg

We have room sans roof basket which means I would have to take it on and off every time I need to do work on it. Unless I do it in the street since our driveway is slopped.

Yesterday picked up the second reman WJ power steering pump, going to see if the rain stays away so that I can install this one.

Lets hope this one doesnt leak...

tires rotated.

Had a drag in passenger side rear brake, checked after a driving while it was HOT, very HOT. Suspected e-brake line which is stuck 2 years ago, but this time it was a adjuster screw :(. Loosened it and now everything seems good. Acceleration became normal no more drag there. Only funny thing is, I am checking drum.disc temp with a water pistol :D

Got my WJ power steering pump finally installed. The second one didn't leak like a water fall unlike the first one did.

Now to address the front driver side caliper, as when I stop I go to the passenger side, and I still have a pretty good vibration on the rear, not sure if the axle is bent or not.

This has been bothering me for years.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160602/11deebe784c52e96afaa3777a5f9c138.jpg

I guess when the door fell off they just never bothered to put the door check back on. So I finally decided to deal with it.

In order to get it in and out you have to go through the hole for the speaker. 2 10mm nuts hold it in place.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160602/be11066883d00880507fd11721b5fce4.jpg

This is what it looked like. Pretty gross. I'm guessing it's a mix of the factory lubricant, water and 22 years of dust.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160602/037e586d3f3f9e7fcd86dfab47cfbc84.jpg

Used brake cleaner, a wire brush and some q tips to get it as clean as I could. Set it up and jammed a bolt in there to hold it in place until I find an actual door check pin at the jy.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160602/df4e477ddaadef7ec9b9467b859ba3a7.jpg

And the moment of truth...
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160602/5e32db7c1cdbfa66f00c65af7564b0ef.jpg

My door finally stays where it should and doesn't attack you when you trying to work on something. Sprayed a bunch of wd 40 on there to make it a little smoother. I should probably put some kind of actual lube on it but oh well it works.

While I had the door panel off I glued the cardboard back together since it's falling apart.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160602/7e80cce6b0cdb981ddeea55b8eba9971.jpg

Went to pick and pull sunday. Sat and talked with the manager a while. Went and pulled an alternator and scoped out a few other things and left. Went back monday said hi to the manager again went out into the yard. Started removing some seats, the guy pulling parts off the car next to me asked for some help pulling a bench seat. As I helped him another patron walked buy. I went back to removing my seat reached for my socket set and nothing was there. Someone stole my tools. I looked all around gone. I ran to the gate let the manager know. They said they would keep eye out for them. I went through the whole junk yard 3 times everyone there new someone was stealing tools and i was looking for mine. Several hours later I left empty handed. Drove an hour and a half home. Sat down on my couch and the phone rings, pick and pull had my tools. Someone tried to leave the yard with them and an employee took them away. He said they were his. They told the guy he could wait for me to show up if he wanted to try keep them, he left. 1 and 1\2 hours back to the city and my tools were back with me.
I hate people that steal stuff. You work hard for your stuff. And for some
a$$hat to take them. On the up side you did get them back.

A bit. But I'm paying the price. Crap I'm sore.
Replaced the exhaust system, with the one from the blue jeep.
It's in two parts, and goes in a straight line, over the axle and past the fuel tank, out the back. As opposed to the standard system, twisting around, in front of the fuel tank, before turning 90° then passing out the back.

I installed the 8.8 and JKS Crossover shock mount, and JKS shackle relocators and shackles.

Still have the tow bar and tank skid, the hand brake and shockies to get done. I'll have to wait for the tow bar, until I get longer bolts though.
Tomorrow I'll finish off today's work and move onto the front. 😁😁

So these wires were rubbing on my exhaust manifold, and they had melted to the point where it was just bare wires... I "fixed" those bare wires on lunch, and now my coolant temp gauge seems to be reading normal.

I let it idle in the parking lot for about a half hour, with the AC on cold enough to freeze you out of the cab, and this is where it sat the whole time...

*Previously, it would sit at about the 120-130 mark, and occasionally drop to below 100. I really need to find my bluetooth scantool so i can keep a good eye on it while i figure out this overheating/puking fluid issue.

Is this about right? Its about 73*F outside currently. Looks to be running at about 165*?

These were the melted wires. Possibly causing my coolant temp gauge to ground out and give me false readings?

Possible your thermostat is stuck open or you have a 165F one?

I just installed a new 195* T-stat a few months ago.... I didnt get it from the dealer though :bang:

Thats exactly where it ran before i replaced it, and the T-stat that i took out was a 195*F one as well. That was the original reason that i had replaced it, because my heat was not very good in the winter (-10*F or so). After that i installed a radiator block, and that helped quite a bit.

Not really .....

Its typical for the display to be about, 210* ... if you have a 195* t'stat fitted

I'm thinking you still have a wiring/sensor issue.

As for mine ... nothing yet.

Hell its still only 0700 on a sunday morning ... I shouldnt even be out of bed yet,

... but the young bloke next door, and his POS ute, went pig hunting this morning.

My 0500 alarm clock went

Slam, Bang, Bark, Howl, Clang, Slam, Bang, Grind Grind, Splutter Splutter, Snort Snort, Rev Rev, Roar,

Then more clanging, as a shower of gravel from the wheels - hit the metal fence,

Then ... piece and quiet as he got to the end of the driveway.

... It stalled as the front wheels reached the roadway,

... so the whole process started again .. :bang: ..

There'll probably be a search party out on tuesday .... wait .... wait,

.... splutter splutter,

Ohhhh great  he's home already :bang:

That means a sunday of having to listen to,

... rev rev rev pop bang ... F'N POS ... yada yada

I'm tempted to go and fix it ... just to get some piece and quiet ..

thermite ... hmmmmmmm

Nahhhh ... theres enough oxygen being wasted on that side of the fence,

... without me igniting it as well .. :D

Rego inspection this thursdy ... and since he frowned at the sticky seat belt last year,

... I figgered I should bang in a newy.

Why do they call 'em vehicle "designers" .. :bang::bang:

I'm pretty sure I taught next door some new cuss words - whilst I described my view of Renault and AMC vehicle making.

Then in a moment of enlightenment,

I had to apologise,
... coz I realised my interior was a chrysler makeover - which explained "everything" .. :D

One would think the seat belt trim would be the first piece off/last piece on,

... but ohh no, lets,

pop the dash top,
pull the knee blocker,
pull the cluster trims and cluster,
remove the dash end,
unscrew the kick board,
remove the a pillar/door top trim,
get the b pillar trim off without destroying the door seal, or the roof lining,
work out why, even with all the screws out, the seatbelt trim stays put,

... ahhhh ... lift up and off stoopid little plastic clip in bodywork ..:rolleyes:

... and finally ... grab the ratchet and torx and get the seat belt out.

Welllllll ..... that certainly wasn't a 5 min job, like on the TJ .. .. :bang:

Good job tomorrow (monday) is a public holiday,

... I can go and do it all again on the :xj-red: ... after the practice run on the spare parts :xj-white:.

Why is tomorrow a public holiday ???

Welll ... since we weren't so rude in the past, as to turn one of our, harbours ... into a giant teapot,

... we get tomorrow off ... to celebrate the Queens Birthday .. :p .. :D:D

He's selling me the header, grille, lights, front fenders, front doors, and the center console for $150.... all these parts in the local JY would total about 100 bucks more, so he's helpin' me out for sure. Best part is, they're already white so I don't have to paint 'em.

Well, after working in the pristine conditions of the parts wreck yesty, I made a start on the grocery getter.

Its like a cesspit by comparison .. :o
It really needs stripping down to the shell and getting a good blasting.

Anyways, swapped the seatbelt over this morning ...
Took the risk I could bend trims without breaking them - so that saved removing a few items ... but not a lot of time.

Now it should only need a vac, a wash, and some spider spray ... to pass the rego inspection .. :D

I took the head unit apart. It's like a puzzle and has to be taken apart in a sequence, but it's not too hard to figure out once you have the head unit out and all the screws pulled out of the sides and back with the face plate taken off. Just be careful and take apart nice easy paying attention to what plugs in where. I then soldered a left speaker wire, right speaker wire and ground wire straight onto the main board inside the factory head unit. I ran the wires out the back next to the antenna fm antenna plug in. I purchased a female audio jack from radio shack with tabs on the back and soldered the other end of the wires to that. When your phone is plugged in to the audio jack it takes precedence over anything else, but if your phone is not plugged in everything else still works. I didn't take many pictures but here's where I soldered onto the main board.

Be careful to notice which pins the wires are soldered to.

Excellent! I'm going to try this on my wife's '00 300m. Keep having to use the tape adapter and it sounds like you're listening through a tunnel... no one makes high-quality tape adapters anymore 'cause everything is bluetooth and digital.

Got to the gas station this morning, gave it a dollop, as we're taking our daughter to the orthodontist, before school. On the way back from paying, Kerry finds a lovely pool of coolant under the outlet side.😠
Dunno where it's coming from yet. Mums wee Kia is a blast to drive though.😈

Light vehicle registration costs

Registration costs are a combination of administration fees and taxes. Most light vehicle registration includes a motor vehicle tax component. Revenue from this tax helps fund road construction and maintenance.

Thats a joke, the last line. Our state Government, like the Federal Government, are funny bastards. I live in "New South Wales". NSW for short, yeah... Hmm, well when the cheeky bastards say, "It's for NSW", "to fix NSW roads", "for the betterment of NSW residents", etc, they mean, "NSW" NEWCASTLE, SYDNEY, WOLLONGONG!!! "NSW".

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m596/bruggz351/misculanious/new-south-wales_zpsaxklschz.jpg

I happen to live near Lismore. So my rego money goes all the way to New South Wales, to make nice roads there. Well more like bleedin tunnels, cause apparently city dwellers are scared of the sun. Or to pay for beautiful fireworks off the Harbour Bridge. Cause that's important too.

Now cost breakdown...

Registration fee

(effective 1 July 2015)

Annual fee: $63

Light vehicles – motor vehicle tax

(effective 1 January 2016)

Light vehicles (up to 4.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass) attract motor vehicle tax based on the tare (unladen) weight of the vehicle. The more it weighs, the higher the vehicle tax. In addition, vehicles used for business purposes attract a higher vehicle tax than those for private use.

See Heavy vehicle charges for information about vehicles more than 4.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass.

Important: The following vehicle tax examples are indicative only. Please call 13 22 13 for information specific to your vehicle and registration type.

Cars, station wagons and trucks

Tare Weight (kg) Private Use Business Use
Up to 975 $204 $331
976 to 1154 $236 $376
1155 to 1504 $289 $456
1505 to 2504 $441 $687
2505 to 2794 $640 $1,067
2795 to 3054 $728 $1,213
3055 to 3304 $797 $1,329
3305 to 3564 $867 $1,445
3565 to 3814 $931 $1,552+$256
3815 to 4064 $1,001 $1,669+$256
4065 to 4324 $1,068 $1,780+$256
4325 to 4500 $1,136 $1,894+$256

Safety checks and inspections

(effective 1 July 2015)

This table shows the current maximum fee for the most common inspection types. For full details of all inspection fees, please see AIS Notice 18.

Vehicle Safety Check (formerly pink slip)

Inspection type Total fee (inc GST)
Light vehicle $38

Safety and Identity Check (formerly blue slip)

Inspection type Total fee (inc GST)

At the end of the month the reg and insp on the jeep and vette expire going to cost me $206.00 for both of them. And I'm bitching about that.

I've always wanted to go to Ausie land (still on the bucket list) several years back was offered a job there but turned it down (only because the wife changed her mind and did not want to move there) Glad we did not move there now.

Well not today, but 2 days back, when I said I was going to try and work on it... Didn't get too much more of the wiring run for the lights & switch panels... But did get the aux and power wires run for my small powered sub.. which will be all I'll do for the low end sound.. for now anyways... I might if I have enough room put my Alpine Type R 12" sub back in there that I had in my 98.. but for now the powered sub gives me enough low end that it makes the listening of music bearable again... at least until I can replace the Kicker speakers I installed to replaced the more than worn out stockers...

Was planning on working on hopefully finishing up most of the wiring for the switch panel and the lights today and this weekend.. But since I got the good news Wednesday night that I have to come into work tonight (my night off) to do a night of training... why the f**k they couldn't have given us a heads up a few days earlier I don't know... but now I'm going to be going in on my night off pissed because I'm out $300 for a reservation for a hotel for the weekend to go see an air show... but since I didn't find out about this BS training day until it was too late to cancel the reservation, I've lost that money... As if I wasn't already aggravated about having to lose a night off... I'm even more pissed about losing the money due to this BS!!

OH! In other news... I've been pulling parts from a Jeep that one of my friends is parting out a couple hours every morning this week. Finally pulled all the parts I had the money for this morning. Header panel, grille, lights and light housings, headlight harness, fenders, front doors, and center console - from a 1998 Cherokee :woot:

After I got done, he came out and started the process of swapping rear axles... he bought 2 Jeeps. One is a black '01 CARB XJ 2wd w/ 3" lift and 33" tires, and the other is a white '98 4wd XJ stock w/ bad motor. His daughter liked the black one better, and since the Jeep is for her, he's taking the parts he needs from the '98 and parting out the rest. The '01 has the turd in it and the '98 has a 8.25 so that's where the swapping of the rear is coming into play. The PO of the 2wd Jeep had already put in a d30 front axle, but it's a LP d30 and he completely gutted it (just wanted it there for looks, I guess).

So naturally... I couldn't resist diving in and helping out with the swap. He's hoping to have the Jeep 4wd by the 2nd weekend in July... told him I'd help with whatever he needs - especially since me and him JUST did that to mine lol. Love workin' on Jeeps and he's pretty cool to hang out with, so it's not a burden at all.

Definitely a Jeep thing.

Absolutely. I've known this guy for a few years actually. His wife worked with me and we used to talk Jeeps and stuff... actually went to a bon fire at their house one night while she was still working there. Then she left and we kinda lost touch. He ended up adding me on facebook about the time I bought my parts jeep for the 4wd swap. He reached out to me about helping me with the swap and we've been hangin' out and wheelin' more frequently ever since. They're good people for sure. Really glad I had the opportunity to meet his wife and then of course, the rest of their family afterwards (The kids are at about driving range too and they're also pretty cool).

Nice! Not sure if those are the American Racing Bajas or not though.... little different looking than the AR Bajas. Notice how the rim goes into the "dish" a little more abruptly and those that you have kinda curve in a little more gradual?

Got exactly 3 1/2" out of the front. We went a little smaller than planned due to clearance in our garage.

Seems the front axle is an inch to the drivers side. Any way to fix that without a adjustable trac bar?

Adj panhard rod is the better choice imho ... googling ought to bring up the, drill and welding bodge up - to relocate the mounting point on the axle.

Doesn't look too bad. Everything came out fine, no broken or seized bolts. For the rear leafs I had to spray it with pb then use my foot to push the breaker bar. Went good and slow and everything came undone without a problem. I still need to put in the t case drops but we had a family thing and I wanted to show off. Still debating on 30x10.5 and 31x10.5 bfg all terrains. I'll figure that out when it's time to buy em.

Grand total is 3 1/2" in the front and 3 3/4" on the back.

Of course, the white will be staying white with the exception of the lower portions to match what I've already got going on, and the passenger side fender will need a little massaging but it's still in better condition than the one that I've already got regardless.

Just waiting on a couple of small things at this point.

..and relocated it for ease of access and keeping it out of the water

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Vrwm4XxdeWs/V23Yp2MJMdI/AAAAAAAAUo8/NFuT8au4TKEgsrnDHL14EPJke43dxaQ7gCCo/s800/20160623_202028_Richtone%2528HDR%2529.jpg

Only drawback is, you can hear the coil doing its thing from inside the cab... but only if you have the radio and the AC turned off. It's not really loud, but it is noticeable.

I was mucking around with a dash cam today. It's not mine, just on loan sorta thing. But it kept glitching out????

A few weeks ago, I installed a second battery. This is where the power is coming from.
My fridge was throwing a error code also, after installation, so removed it until I could sort it.

Well I sorted it.... checked the power coming from the cig outlet, only getting 8.4V.
Checked the battery. 8.45V. ???
Hmm... Something amiss here.. Went over the wiring to the piranha dual battery controller. All good... or so I thought. On second inspection, the P.O. had removed the second battery, then butchered the ground wire to the controller, and stuffed into some adjacent conduit. I repaired the ground and BAM!! the grime is gone..... all working good now. 13.58V at both batteries when running at idle.

Guess I put me fridge back now... although, I reckon that battery might be cactus.. don't think it'll come back from 8.5V....:love0055:

Well, this morning after mowing the lawn (after working all night) I decided to get rid of all the wind-catchers up top that really aren't doing me any good driving around every day. I rarely haul stuff on the roof anymore and the lights, aside from not being bright enough to begin with, aren't used at all because I never go wheeling at night (yet). So not that I'm trying to double my MPGs, but there's no point having the drag up there if they're not serving a purpose.

I also need to get some rubber trim to cover my cuts so it doesn't look so shitty.

Actually GOT to WORK on a JEEP today!!!!!

Since the WJ is going to be a daily driver....started with the simple stuff, and not even a wash yet.

Bought front and rear pads, and parking brake shoes, and put it up on a jack and jack stands. Somebody over-did it with a pneumatic impact gun, my electric HF impact gun would not budge the lug nuts, and I did not have enough air line to break out the Earthquake pneumatic. So I grabbed my HF breaker bar, and let the WJ down to get the lugnuts loose.:bang:

Once I got them loose, somebody apparently does not know what antiseize is for.:bang:

Front pads had maybe a 1/16" of pad material left, rear had maybe 1/8".

A liberal application of Kroil, and some help from a deadblow that turned into a 2lb brass hammer, and the rear rotors were off. Parking shoes were barely worn, so I adjusted them up, and installed new pads. Did a test loop around farm, much better. Changed the oil with some cheap Supertech from Walmart, but used a decent Fram Tough Guard filter...lets see how it is in a week.:rolleye0012:

But I worked on a Jeep, and had a  afterwards...one of my better days.

Just wondering if you know that you cut and fold the rear. Nothing wrong with doing it like that on the front, just not needed and more work. The fronts you can just cut. The rears you cut and fold due to the gap that is created if you just cut.

How did you find those tires? Those must be at least 9-10 years old.

Ive heard you can do it either way. I may go a little bigger and just cut it. I honestly dont know why i did it this way lol.

Ill be doing the same on the rears later this week.

The set of 5 tires and wheels were free to me. I traded the guy for an adjustable track bar that was given to me by a friend. Im sure they are old, but they hold air, and i only drive this thing once a month maybe. They should be good to get me around for a little while.

Drove it to the gym... Need to figure out the random drivers window not wanting to roll back up issue... worried the next time it decides it doesn't want to roll up, it'll start raining.. Picked up some more splices so that I can hopefully get the A-pillar pod wiring completed to the fuse block/switch... and run the wiring to the front for the bumper mounted bar.. (although still debating if I'm going to run the one I have, or order the next larger size.. Might just order up the next larger size, and see how it looks on the bumper... if it looks too out of place, then I'll go back to the current one, and make use of the larger one elsewhere!!)

After installing the shackle relocators, I left the tow bar off until I got longer bolts.
Well, I was putting the tow bar on the other night, after purchasing half a dozen, longer bolts. I no sooner had removed the last of the old bolts, when, TWANG!! the friggin relocators moved...:bang: They were hard enough to get in, in the first place.
Ah well. I offer up the tow bar, nup, nothin lines up!!
Anyway, after a LOT of swear words, trying to knock myself out with a crowbar:stars:, damn the hurt, and judicious use of G cramps, I successfully got the tow bar, gas tank skid AND shackle relocators bolted in. Oh, along with the exhaust mount for the tail pipe, too.:bacondance: Last damned bolt, "One more wrench'll do it, I reckon" I think to myself.
You know, too tight is loose, eh...

Washed it, waxed it, installed my rugged Ridge tow points, cut my rear fenders, and put edging over the cuts on all 4 corners.

It's amazing what a difference a couple coats of wax makes on almost 20 year old paint!

So yesterday morning, I ordered a MOPAR CPS (p/n 4638128) from an online retailer and by the afternoon, they emailed me back saying they didn't have one in stock and it's been discontinued. Perfect. Thanks for advertising something you don't have. Oh well, I'll try somewhere else.

Ebay, let's try ebay. Ended up finding a dealership from the town I grew up in, that's been around since I was a little guy, selling one on ebay. GREAT! I'll order from them. They're reputable and they're only 4 hours away so it shouldn't take too awfully long to get it. THEY sent me a message through ebay this afternoon saying, "Sorry, the part we had in stock that you ordered was actually for a repair job. We're locating another part for you but it's going to take longer than the 2 days we originally estimated."

Seriously? So, you had a part in inventory... JUST ONE. And just out of coincidence, you have to use it for a repair? No. If you listed it on ebay, you should have pulled it from your parts inventory -or- if you needed to use it for repair, you should have canceled the sale on ebay until you had another one on hand.

I sent them a message back expressing how annoyed I was and that what they did was unacceptable. I also said that they should take the part that I paid for from their repair and send it to me and make the repair customer wait. It's not my fault they didn't plan accordingly. Hopefully this will light a fire under them to "search faster"

Enjoying driving it more and more each time I get too... Researching some more for new gears, try and get a bit of power/ gas economy back... Noticed tonight that the passenger side spring, lower leaf is starting to do this random turning thing... No where near hitting my tire, so that is certainly good... but need to figure out what all I need to do to get it lined back up.. Not sure if I can just flex the rear axle to remove pressure on that side, or if I'm going to have to remove the U-bolts and the axle shim pin to get it straight... Really hoping I don't have to pull it all apart to remedy the misalignment... but guess I pretty much have to do whatever I have to do, especially before my tire and anything else gets damaged..

Transfer case drop put in and that's a wrap. It took 3 weeks working on it off and on between traking care of the baby and work, alot of swearing and a good amount of throwing things. But it's done. The only thing left is to test drive it and a driveway alignment. Then it's on to the next project.

I just re-drilled the hole on mine. About 3/4" to the right of the current hole and everything's gravy. It actually ended up tightening up the front end quite a bit too because the original hole was wallered out.

I downloaded an app for the phone, to help with the caster on the XJ.
I've now put it back to standard. No adjustment in the lower arms at all.

I'm running aftermarket lower arms, but they measure, centre to centre, the same as standard arms, 405mm I think it was.

Funny thing is, it's sitting very close to where it's needed, for the 4/4.5" lift. The caster angle now is 5.7°. 6.5° is standard, to my knowledge. 5.5° is ideal for 4.5" lift. From what I've read.

I'll leave it at that for a bit, and see how things go... Drive shaft angle looks good. Sounds good.

Im in the process of installing my adjustable short arms, and i thought for a 4.5" lift, the center to center on the control arms should be around 16.3" according to the chart? I suppose thats supposed to be a starting point, but 450mm is just under 18", that seems like a big difference.

My stock ones were about 15.75".

So a little while back, Jeep Momma received these GRD Products Removable Mud Flaps.
After her review of them, she decided they weren’t a good fit for her Jeep, and sent them to me.
During shipping, the package was damaged, and one of the mounting brackets went missing.
There was no hope of installing the pair of them without the missing bracket, so I had two options….
Try and track down a replacement from the manufacturer, or fab my own. I decided to go with the latter.
I started with reverse engineering the remaining bracket. I took measurements and made a dimensional print to work off of.
After that I sourced some materials, some ½” rod and 1/8” plate.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-1.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-1.jpg.html)
The rod I had turned on a lathe here at work to give me the proper inside diameter clearance.
I transferred measurements to the plate and marked the hole locations.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-2.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-2.jpg.html)
Once I had the new bracket cut and drilled, I was ready to weld.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-3.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-3.jpg.html)
After welding and a little clean up, and a fresh coat of paint and I had a pretty darn good copy of the original:
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-4.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-4.jpg.html)
Now with the whole set and all parts accounted for, I was ready for the install.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-5.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-5.jpg.html)
These particular brackets are (I believe) were originally made for a Wrangler platform,
…but after a few minutes of positional mock-up, I had a pretty good spot picked out.
And I think it turned out pretty good.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-6.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-6.jpg.html)

Will certainly do more business with them for any drivetrain purchases.. Wish I could afford the D44 deal they have for the XJ.. but stockers will do just fine once I get some new gears in.. Now to find someone to do the install.. unfortunately the guy who I was going to have install them blew his knee out jumping down from his mud rig after it flipped over.. so he'll be out until October recuperating after surgery...

http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-1.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-1.jpg.html)
The rod I had turned on a lathe here at work to give me the proper inside diameter clearance.
I transferred measurements to the plate and marked the hole locations.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-2.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-2.jpg.html)
Once I had the new bracket cut and drilled, I was ready to weld.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-3.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-3.jpg.html)
After welding and a little clean up, and a fresh coat of paint and I had a pretty darn good copy of the original:
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-4.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-4.jpg.html)
Now with the whole set and all parts accounted for, I was ready for the install.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-5.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-5.jpg.html)
These particular brackets are (I believe) were originally made for a Wrangler platform,
…but after a few minutes of positional mock-up, I had a pretty good spot picked out.
And I think it turned out pretty good.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/Mudflaps/BRACKET-6.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/Mudflaps/BRACKET-6.jpg.html)

Nice work! Thankfully, we don't need them here, but I think if I ever moved somewhere that required mudflaps, I'd go with something similar to this.

Since I had my Jeep torn about halfway down to correct a bunch of little stuff and some blown head gaskets, I redid my battery cables and ran them through the passenger compartment from the batteries in back and through the firewall by the AC drain and ran then to this homegrown buss bar. There is still one more cable from the winch to attach to it, but it beats connecting them together and wrapping it with weather head tape. Hopefully if I get a red hot cat and muffler again, I won't have any more silly problems with welding my undercarriage.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/warriorsuspension/Build%20Stuff/IMG_1838_zps2lbggxzw.jpg

The red cable is from my 250 amp alternator which will be connected directly to the winch stud on the buss bar. Should have plenty of juice for that power hungry Warn

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/warriorsuspension/Build%20Stuff/IMG_1833_zpsmj0gclhz.jpg

Also had a problem with my power hungry Taurus fan.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/warriorsuspension/Build%20Stuff/IMG_1836_zpsatz1plj2.jpg

You can see the relay on the end has been getting hot even though the relay and pigtail are rated for 50 amps, and not cheap

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/warriorsuspension/Build%20Stuff/IMG_1840_zpso2e2nlgn.jpg

So I replaced it with a continuous duty solenoid rated at 200 amps. Got tired of carrying spare relays for the fan. The solenoid was actually cheaper than the relay and pigtail. Also added a new relay to that rack for a starter relay and got rid of the old style OEM relay

Yes, delete the rear sway bar and if you don't use a spring conpressor on the front, then you will need to disconnect the links and trac bar. Then use ratchet straps to get all the bolt holes lined up. If you use an add a leaf for the rear take the spring apart without removing the main leaf

Pinkyman

Dont use an add a leaf for the rear.

Fixed it for you. Lol.

Seriously, with the way your rear leaf packs were inverted, you definitely want full packs. The leaf to frame bolts suck, but your jeep is pretty clean, so they shouldnt be an issue, just tight as hell and hard to break loose.

Other than that, just listen to Mr. 4.3LXJ. A spring compressor will be your best friend, even if you just go rent one for the day, youll be glad you did. And as he said, you can delete your rear sway bar without any issues.

New brake lines wont hurt wither if you are going to be doing flexy things. I have stock ones on my Xj, but i will be listening to my own advice and replacing them with extended stainless braided lines on Thursday before the Crawl. Its not worth losing brakes and careening off a hill just to save a hundred bucks.

I just put in a 3 1/2 weeks ago and my advice, get a spring compressor!!! That and a breaker bar are the 2 most important tools for this job. I had to do everything wrong a couple times before I got it right. A good amount of pb blaster and a breaker bar are you friend. My jeep is really clean so I had no issues with stuck or broken bolts and from the comments it looks like you're on the same boat. Don't waste your time it money with aal, go full leaf pack. Just take your time and everything should go smoothly .. If not that's what you have us for.

lol... yeah those were toast!

Well, as mentioned earlier, I swapped a '98 front clip onto my '92. Spliced in the park/turn signal lamp sockets into the '92 wiring harness for full function of park/turn/marker lights. Lined everything up as good as possible for an 18 year old front clip going onto a 24 year old Jeep. Pretty evenly gapped on both sides too.

After that, I replaced the lower radiator hose with a used one in good condition (was serving as my spare - got it off my parts Jeep), and replaced the CPS with a brand-new MOPAR unit. Wish I could say it ran better because of it. I'm hearing whistling under accel though, so I believe it's a vacuum leak that I'm going to be chasing down.

Anywho.... pics:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-srF1jgOpa8o/V4cKzJ6HgcI/AAAAAAAAVFU/MlAYDSV0Kegsf_UoYT9j7w-u5SmfDfiSgCCo/s800/20160713_194813.jpg

Pay no attention to that HUGE gap between the header panel and fender on this side. This was just preliminary mock-up to check the fit before wiring it all up.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-d8J8TUAPn7U/V4cKzA3O2pI/AAAAAAAAVFU/ruBaRKX7NOM8PfWVf3QzBkeCNvZjHlICwCCo/s800/20160713_194824.jpg

I'm not a huge fan of wire taps, but I was kinda under the wire and had a couple more things I needed to get done. I staggered them out so they would fit in the split loom and I sealed it up with tape real good. Should at least last until I can take the time to solder it up proper.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hQJB1-jSWUw/V4wx7bwX4YI/AAAAAAAAVKk/JwUCVEXeA-0O57ZoDSBe3JouJWpzf3X-wCCo/s800/20160714_213903.jpg

All lights on and working correctly:

And turn signals functioning correctly with marker lights alternating as intended as well:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nKNzJ44EI08/V4wx7S-jpwI/AAAAAAAAVKk/z-ldQ7iG3U4l5-Cmd5r9ipBpJbSBNtMVQCCo/s800/20160715_000053.jpg

I also modified the front door hinges to be removable and made sure everything was lined up correctly. The doors close better now and once the weather gets better, I'll take 'em off and go wheelin' without 'em. Takes a bit of effort to get them off though... plus, I'm still using the stock harnesses so it takes a bit to unplug them and feed them through the door frame.

I haven't installed them yet because I'm trying to figure out how to splice them in to the wiring for the '98 doors so I can use them instead anyway. Finally having a full-size window will be nice for a change. I'll make half doors out of the old '92s.

I got sidetracked and started installing the rail shifter. Not really ready, but, meh, I do this all the time. 😕
Mounted the shifter in the console, next to the hand brake lever.
Cut the console to pieces, which is pretty easy to do with a thin blade. After I mounted the shifter, I simply welded the console back together with an old tip in my soldering iron.
When it came to the wiring, I decided to buy new connectors and switches. Instead of pilfering from old harnesses. So its not done yet. [emoji12]

I have a Putco harness on mine and my buddy doesn't on his. It seems that mine are way brighter so I think im going to take one from Mudder's book/thread and try that dimmer to tone it down some.
I fully understand the enlisted budget, even on a WO's budget. Lol.

Yeah I have the Putco harness too... well I did.. replaced it with one from Raffi on FB.. and it seems to work even better.. Do the headlights you have seem to have a halfway decent cutoff, or none at all?? I know the LED's as a whole won't have a cutoff.. but was wondering if maybe with that setup they might have a better cutoff compared to the style I have.. Also you were mentioning your buddy's shop selling them for $100... was wondering what the contact or website info was for his shop??

And I wish the AF would stop being stupid and bring back the WO's... my dad was a CW3 in the Army.. and I think it's an awesome program...

NightSun4x4.com is who I got mine from. As for cutoff, I have yet to fully adjust them. Seems as my buddy has a better visible pattern with the stock wiring unlike mine with upgraded wiring.

I run 3" PVC (thinner sewer grade fits perfectly into rubber elbow) and an edelbrock filter (same idea as an open element K&N) on my MJ. Works fine. But, don't expect any real power gains from a filter though.

http://i1319.photobucket.com/albums/t679/David_Groeneveld/Jeep%20Comanche/20141007_214257_zps4ajd1vnk.jpg (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/David_Groeneveld/media/Jeep%20Comanche/20141007_214257_zps4ajd1vnk.jpg.html)

Planning to build a similar system for my XJ but plumb it over to the passenger side and boxed into a cowl hood.

unless you separate the filter from the heat of the engine you're really not helping anything and my actual could cause more harm. allowing water easier way

Yeah, that's not an issue with the above picture, it's my DD and currently a 2wd street vehicle. As for the heat concern, not an issue either, as it draws the same airspace as the stock filter. Unless you plumb it to the outside (snorkel, or cowl) there is no real "cold air" under the hood regardless of box or not.

In my case it was after modding my Renix, it was easier to do this than search the wrecking yards for an HO airbox, and my stock Renix airbox was FUBAR. I have a cowl hood for this one as well, just pushing back doing all the body work for it (it's still pretty rough, and I hates body work).

And FYI - those Edelbrock filter cost me a whopping $35 CDN and I have yet to find any dust or grit in the intake tubes. Seem to filter quite well ... and cheap enough I've considered just buying a new one over cleaning the damn thing.

I have one on mine. It was there when I bought it. It's okay. I wouldn't say there's any noticeable power or anything from it. If it wasn't there when I got the Jeep, I wouldn't have bought one.

I currently have plans to modify the stock box for a cowl snorkle.

As for me.... well, yesterday, I hooked it up to my parts Jeep and drug it out of the overgrown hole it was sitting in. Needed room to access it from all sides to continue cutting it up. I've got about a week to cut the rest of it up to fit in my trailer before the county slaps me with a fine :bang:

Today, I loaded it up with a bunch of tools and headed to work. A co-worker's Jeep was dead in the parking lot. Wouldn't start. No-crank... not even a "click" to the starter. I wish I could have stuck around to help him work on it, but I had to start my shift. He came in and told me it's something between the clutch safety switch and the starter relay. Hotwired the relay and the Jeep started right up. Feel bad for him though. Been a rough week for him. Wife just left him, now he's got Jeep problems. Trying to help him out wherever I can.

I know they do here in DE.. They hook it up to check all the sensors are working properly and not flagging anything... I took mine through inspection, knowing the bright lights were a little finicky... but that was all that was wrong with it... and that night when I go to drive it to the gym, the right blinker randomly doesn't work correctly, and the CEL is on.... so I replaced the light stalk on the steering wheel, and now my brights work correctly, and the right turn signal hasn't malfunctioned since.... but the CEL has been a constant battle since the inspection... oh well.. Plan to replace both O2 sensors as soon as I replace the exhaust manifold and the downpipe... I have replaced the lower sensor twice, but haven't been able to replace the upper, due to the PO not using any kind of anti seize, or he just tightened it down way too much... either way... hopefully the CEL won't be a battle anymore once I finally replace both sensors @ the same time with matching brand sensors... (but only time will tell on that I guess...)

Depends on the state and the model year.
OR does the ECM on OBII and newer / otherwise a tube in the tail pipe.
WA is similar depending on what county you life in...

Some cons to it though. Its a 99 Laredo. Sadly it is a 2wd but not really a huge deal since the engine compartment is nothing but a nest for insects right now. The guy I got it from was actually selling the original 4.0 when I arrived, and they were loading it in the back of the new owners truck... :banghead: The interior took a hit too due to the drivers window being detached and fallen down some, and the liftgate glass is busted. But, there is some pros as well! The body is in great shape. Just a few dents here and there. Liking the taupe color too. And even though its had better days the interior is all there. Transmission too. And the whole reason I got it... it was free!

Long term plan is unknown but the purpose for now is to use it to r&d brackets for the WJ line.

Even though its a pusher I still am excited to get our first "new to us" Jeep in 12 years. :driving:

Wish I could find a deal like that... Certainly needs quite a bit of cleaning up and love.. but would be a great deal, after a trip or two to the local P-n-P.. I was looking for a Dub-Jay after I had to let my 98 XJ go, and was going through withdrawals from Jeep life... Kind of wish I had looked for a 4.0 version, and then done a budget stroker build... especially since the 4.7 V8 seems to always give up the ghost on folks, especially when they hit up the trails and other fun stuff!!

...if you get the HO 4.7 v8, you'll have the upgraded heads in it that doesn't drop valves as soon as it gets 1* over operating temps.

Nice deal.. Sad thing is.. you'll probably get your 4.56's installed before I do.. lol... Everyone that I was going to have do my installs, have had stuff come up that has delayed them doing the install.. 1 guy blew out his knee and is having surgery done on it, jumping down from his mud truck, 1 said he should be able to get me in sometime in Sep., and 1 is a shop that is semi new... and so no real feedback on how they are as far as gear installs, or what they'll do if they do something incorrectly with the install... But found another shop, that builds lots of stuff, from Jeeps to monster trucks... I had originally thought bout hitting them up, but thought they were way further down the road from where I am, but this past weekend found out they really aren't that far away, so I am going to hit them up and see if they'll be able to get me in and get them done before the other guy can, and if they aren't too much higher priced..

Drove mine to work last night, and my drivers side window decided it didn't want to come back up, luckily that happened after the rain had stopped for the night... So took it all apart today, and pulled the motor off the regulator and ran the bracket up by hand, then put it all back together... so at least my XJ is secured and water tight again.. So I ordered another new regulator, as well as a new drivers door switch panel... one way or another I hope that this will take care of the issue and get it back up and working correctly again. I checked all the wires, and none of them seemed to be shorting or damaged. I checked resistance on all of them, as well as power @ the motor with each selection of the switch, and it all seemed to working correctly, so don't know if the motor jammed up or what... but guess we'll see if it works correctly once the new parts get here (hopefully tomorrow)...

Right? That's one of the biggest things I miss about Maryland is the crab. Well... any of their seafood. Love it!
